  1. Sadly, most of the 300k gold shortcuts are placed vastly beyond their real usefulness. "Yay I can get to the mines quicker!" uh… aren't you already using the minecart to do that? I think out of all the shortcuts, only the fishing spot one I really think is all that good, other than maybe the one near Leah's house. The rest are "eh" because they are in places I either almost never go, or I have quicker ways to get there. Some of these would have been REALLY useful early-game, though.
EDIT: I will admit, though, I didn't know about the deluxe scarecrow. Huh. I think I'm only missing the casino coin one (which'll be the most annoying to get prolly), and the two you buy with gold AFAIK.. and maybe the fair one.

  2. 5) Hops are an amazing catch-up crop. If you feel like you've fallen behind the power curve come Summer year 1, plant as many hops as you can stand to. The return-on-investment is nearly unrivaled. The main contender is Starfruit wine, which takes far more upfront investment of money and far more time for the return. It's also the most productive use of a tile of soil, though that's usually not considered a limiting resource. It could be important in some self-imposed challenges, though. (IIRC the beach farm prohibits sprinklers, so most beach farms will be rather limited in scope, but even then the greenhouse and [REDACTED] farms are usually enough on their own.)

P.S. Hops also have a bizarre secondary use. Since they produce daily, up to 17 total seasonal yield, or more with growth rate buffs, you can plant them in order to eat the produce. It's actually better than any vanilla field crop for this purpose. The only serious contender here is cactus fruit grown in a garden pot, though that's available late enough in the game you'll likely just buy salad instead if you really need food.

    8) The primary advantage of preserve jars is the much lower processing time. As such, you need far fewer of them to process a given amount of produce. They're also much more accessible. There's no need to set up a tapper operation to get them going, and you can craft them at a farming skill of 4 rather than 7. They're crucial speedrun tech for a reason.

    9) The best use of out-of-season stock I can think of is probably buying Fairy Rose seeds to set up the best possible honey operations on [REDACTED], or wherever else you can find isolated tiles of tillable soil you can safely put a ton of bee houses around. It might have been nice if it could be used a little earlier in the game for filling out bundles. There usually isn't time to grow things for quests, so using out-of-season seeds for quests seems like it'll seldom happen.

  3. Deluxe covers 4x the area and the snowman rarecrow can be bought for 1k cheaper from the regular travelling cart

Disclaimer: do not use a napalm ring if you have monsters on your farm. One day, you will forget to take it off at the end of the day…

  4. Correction, the forage crates are levelled up by your foraging level, not your house. It may only seem that way because if you get the wood via chopping it you're getting loads of foraging levels just to upgrade your house, hence making your crates of higher value.
