Awhile back my kid started showing interest when I would play Stardew Valley on my switch. She’s little, so her screen time is super limited, but she gets a little. She really wanted to play, so I pulled out an old laptop and we bought yet another copy on my husband’s steam account and I did a co-op into one of my old saves. She loves running around town and having me make cakes for her character, following me, and having me sit with her in her very very pink house.

I also staff San Diego Comic Con. So this year when I was on a break I popped down to the floor and found her the Stardew Valley cookbook. Immediately, she wanted to make the pink cake, her fav food item in the game, but we were super busy. This weekend we had a mother/daughter weekend while my husband was out of town so.. we made the pink cake.

I used regular eggs and not duck eggs, and it was a crazy weekend so I did a horrible job frosting the cake. (I’m a chemist, not a cake decorator!) And we “surprised” daddy with it this morning. (She told him about it before he left about 37 times.) We let her live out her in-game dreams and have a very small slice with breakfast, which is usually the time of day in the game when she asks me for a pink cake.

It’s not bad. I’m not a huge cake person to begin with, but it’s nice and moist. I enjoyed the strawberry watermelon filling more than I thought I would based on the combination.

Next she wants us to make the chocolate cake.
