Depending on how wide the tunnels are, vines can grow on the surface and hop over. I always line the grass with stone 8 blocks away from the tunnel entrance to avoid that.
That being said, this won’t matter in hardmode.

technically no, 8ut part of setting the world to hardmode is making a massive diagonal stretch of the world evil that you can’t really do anything to predict or prevent until after it happens

3 wide with no grass will prevent *that specific patch* of Corruption from spreading. They don’t stop the Biome V.
Background walls do not spread biomes and do not need to be removed.

Depends, The holes need to be at least 3 blocks wide and also in some rare cases the weird spiky things can infect blocks and in hardmode corruption and crimpson can drip down and infect blocks that way so you need something like stone that cannot be infected to layer the bottom so no more gets infected, So as long as you have all that, You’re set!
