This pen used to be full of grass. Over 1-2 seasons the amount of grass has slowly decreased. I thought the grass would spread from underneath the lightning rods, but that doesn’t seem to be happening. Does anyone know why? Thanks!

Grass spreads from a specific side of its choice (up, down, left, right, and just maybe even corners). The game is like I want to spread down, then the game tells itself oh I can’t because there’s no land there. Same thing happens in fruit bat cave wanting to put fruit down but there’s a candy cane in the way.

Grass spreads the best when all four directions around it are clear. The grass under your lightning rods has only one possible square to spread to each day. Your animals are probably making a mad dash to those few patches and eating them every morning.

This setup would work better if you spread the lightning rods and grass under them evenly throughout the pen, leaving all four sides clear.

They ate it all!! I put the rods spaced out around a little, maybe do two rings in the middle

It depends on how many animals are in the barn, but they most likely are eating more than the grass is producing. I’d suggest 1 or 2 2×2 hardwood fence or lightning rod “feeders” in the middle of the pen.

  6. It is spreading, just not at the rates you need for it to be sustainable. Wait for a rainy day (or pop a totem) to redo the hardwood fence with some grass underneath, and put a few grass starters with lightning rods in the middle of the pasture. Depending on how many animals you have, this enclosure may simply be too small to sustain them.

  7. Your animals are eating it about as quickly as it’s able to spread. Might want to expand that grazing area a bit

I dot the grass starters around the pen. Literally just randomly doing it. Then I keep the animals in until I feel like there’s enough to be self sustaining and let them at it 😊

  9. go buy some grass starters from pierre and spread them about that part it’s actually a very minor investment
