The Clentamination of Terraria…

Why is everything now post planterra?
Why have all the fun little things like storm bow, leaf wings and revaer shark been removed?
Why is master mode so badly made?
Why is the clentamintor so ass? And doesn’t work, despite it being a major function of the game.
Why was ochram removed but golem’s arcaic ass still in the game?

These are all questions i asked myself in my latest master mode play through with my friend.

As this was not the Terraria i remember playing all those years ago. The fun was removed leaving a sterile game left. Or in terraria terms, a clentamintated game.

It felt as if an over protective parent had coddled the game, to death. No, don’t use the revere shark, or the leaf wings and you must certainly not use the Daedalus storm bow. *Despite the fact that we added all these things to the game, balanced them pretty well and left them there for about 5+ years, before randomly nerfing them into oblivion.

Yeah as you can tell, im not very happy with the current state of terraria. And here are here are my multiple reasons why.

  1. I think it is good that on tier items should be balanced around eachother, but having tier skips be available is definitely something that is good for replays and challenge runs. Though I'll say in general the ranger class took a lot of Ls in 1.4. They could have given melee a more close up approach for high damage, let ranger be consistent and make mana actually matter for mage and that would have balanced them pretty good but it's understandable that they wouldn't wanna change the game too much. I think relogic are among the better devs in wider gaming, but I agree that terraria is not without Flaw. (Or a better storage system in vanilla, man)

While not a perfect mod (defense damage and master death are not great) I enjoy how calamity let's you skip some progression at a reasonable cost. Some bosses are more skippable than others, readers shark is back, and hardmode becomes more like prehardmode because you can fight the bosses in almost any order you want. Stuck on the mechs? Sure plantera is harder but you can beat it with patience.

The golem hate is a bit overblown imo. Personally I think that it's actually good for the health of the game that not every boss is functionally harder than the last. Like if you are playing melee, plantera is almost objectively easier than the twins, and that's nice because the twins are super annoying for melee.

Master mode is… admittedly undercooked. It's nice for using op mods and still having a challenge, but it is admittedly pretty lazily desitned defined. It makes me wonder why defense scales with world difficulty over game stage. Like, 1/2 prehardmode where defense actually matters, 3/4rths in hardmode where it scales fast, and 1 post moonlord for the sake of post-game play. I do like the addition of mostly cosmetic drops for an optional difficulty, the issue is that the difficulty is artificial. Heck, we could have, like calamity, seen master mode be a in-game toggle like calamity revengeance for when you wanna farm or challenge yourself for cosmetic rewards.

As someone who has tried clentaminating the world before… yeah, I agree it's not right yet. Biome sight potions were a start, but I would love a Compass that points you to the nearest infected blocks so you don't have to destroy the entire world to get there.

Also npc housing was a cool idea, but in practice it's a little too picky. It would be cool if it mostly focused on giving npcs exclusive trades to incentivize different houses rather than punishing not doing so.

  2. Hahahaha what are these complaints just go play modded or previous versions? I DON'T ENJOY THESE SO NO ONE ELSE SHOULD >:#

all I can really say is you need to get better at Terreria. Can't wait for next patch and to see what else they "ruin" and if they "drag their name into the ground"

  3. The spread of corruption and stuff makes me not even wanna play the game, like I just cannot be assed to cleanse all of that when I wanna spend my time fighting bosses and building cool houses :/

  4. Just sounds like Terraria outgrew you. The version you like isn’t gone, go play that one. It’s unfortunate to learn as you get older, but not every game is for everyone.

  5. this whole video is a bit of a mess but the thing i take the most issue with is the “remove golem” argument, more specifically using turkor, lepus, and ocram as examples of bosses being “removed”. these bosses were not developed by relogic and, more importantly, they were CONSOLE EXCLUSIVES. turkor and lepus were absolute nothing burgers of bosses, just there to throw a bone to mobile players. ocram was, in my opinion, a bad fight. eye of cthulhu ai with insane projectile spam, and all for what? armor sets and weapons that were just ugly reskins of other items with better stats (not to mention ocram’s terrible drop rates and summon recipie)? ocram was only implemented to be a faux “final boss” for console players to fight, with no thought given to how he would affect the game later down the line with content updates, that’s why he was removed. complain about golem all you want, but he’s a core part of terraria’s progression. you did nothing but complain about golem without so much as proposing an alternative, or even calling for a rework in general. instead, since you don’t like golem, he has to be fully removed from the game. relogic won’t remove golem from the game, that’s incredibly unreasonable to ask for. i would understand if you argued that golem should be reworked, that would be much more reasonable and something that relogic could realistically do. this is by no means the only argument from the video i take issue with, but it’s the one that stuck out to me the most. insane take imo.
