When you go into hard mode, your corruption (and new hallow) form a V in the world. Basically a diagonal line down to the centre from where your corruption is. You need to wait for this V to be created to know where to dig to prevent the spread

That’s plenty for that section but as others have said the hard mode V will spawn as soon as the wall of flesh is killed and it doesn’t care about pre existing tunnels or barriers. They’ll stop it from spreading but not from generating. It’s a difficult task to contain it because you’re at your weakest when it generates.

honestly a better way to contain the croppuetiin is build a massive moat around your bases

As many have stated, the hardmode V doesn’t care ~~but i would like to note that i do believe background walls might still spread it considering some are linked to the outside, though idk what walls can be infected nor if they can infect actual blocks.~~
If anyone more knowledgeable knows about this correct me if i’m wrong.
