  1. Well, you should dig out around any particular diamond block until you can verify all 26 blocks that surround are not diamonds (including the diagonal blocks). It’s just luck if you find another diamond generation one block or more away from the initial find.

    Bedrock blocks, however, can break up the diamond generation chunks so that is an exception to this rule but you probably shouldn’t be digging for diamonds that deep.

    The other exception is caves. There is a 50% chance any diamond block that is naturally exposed to air on any side will be reverted to a regular block, so that can break up the generation chunks as well.
