You can catch the goldfishman :] use a net. If i guess correct you can make one out of cobweb. Also you can use andrew to show you crafting recipes. Use the tab crafting while talking to andrew :]
No one seem to comment about it, but if you don't want to use the terraria wiki for spoil (which I totally understand) I strongly advise you use the crafting option of the guide (well Andrew). He will show you everything you can craft of an item you gathered and what you need for it.
I don’t know what the default keybind is, but look for smart cursor in the controls option in settings. It makes mining WAY easier cause all you have to do is have you mouse in the direction you want to go and tada. Also, platinum is the best ore you can get right now, so make a platinum bow and armor and everything, though pickaxe is optional, cause silver mines faster, but takes more hits to destroy a block, so that’s up to you. Also, get a full set of armor, cause you get set bonuses, which early game tend to just be more defense, but later on can become crazy powerful.

The chests in houses can't be traped and to tell if a chest is traped dig all under the chest and if there is no tnt than it is safe if there is tnt mine it than make a box around the chest for safety

try making more homes to get more people to get better things
if you get bombs go to the corruption and blow up an orb but if you blow up 3 orbs something special will happen
there is a chance the if you blow up an orb it will give you a gun which gives you a gun npc who sells guns and bullets

put a bottle on your crafting bench , and build more houses!
