Top 7 New and Old Games Like Terraria That You Should Play in 2023!

hey guys i’m game advisor and today we’ll be going over seven games that are very similar to terraria so with all that being said let’s just jump right on into it first up is forager forger is an open world survival and crafting game with several farming and time related mechanics built into it by time-related mechanics i mean things that feel almost like cookie clicker-like mechanics they’re kind of just built directly into the game this will include things like passively being able to generate resources or currency from specific buildings that you’re able to make to craft those buildings though and unlock new skills you’ll have to level up by playing the game and interacting with the world this means you can level by chopping trees fighting enemies mining rocks or just about anything else there are a fair amount of glitches or soft locks though that some people have come across but for a relatively small game with such a cheap price it is totally understandable the game itself is rather simple to be honest with you but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing for an example this game is on mobile and switch so it’s a great game to play when you want to play something similar to terraria but you want a little bit of a different taste when you’re on the go following that is kepler kepler’s is an adventure sandbox rpg game with a heavy focus on its combat now from looking at the footage you might wonder why the game’s graphics are the way they are this is because instead of spending tons of their time on making a visually appealing game they seem to have wanted to develop several different game mechanics and make sure the combat feels solid now the gear system within kepler’s uses the same style of gearing that terraria does in the sense that everything from bosses to loot chests can give you some sort of a special item you can also have what are essentially trinkets in terraria and armor classes that put you more into a tank mage ranged or melee role this makes kepler’s super fun to play with friends of course since you can each play something different to have some nice variety now one of the more interesting features that kepler offers to its players is its cloning system the cloning system allows you to put what are essentially talents into a puzzle-like system just like what you can do with your player in order to craft yourself a clone these clones can be specialized heavily into things like damage reflection or tank rolls so they can help to support you in combat the other cool feature about this is that there are also mountable pets that can be used in combat to give you things like a move speed or a damage dealing buff for your entire party at the end of the day this means in kepler’s that you can have three or more companions running around with you even if you don’t have a single friend to play with up next is going to be nekkesi nakeshi is an open world survival crafting game once again but it has the key feature of being a colony management game as well nakessi is clearly a game with a major major focus on its mechanics which is made very apparent by the more simplistic art style that’s not to say that the art style is bad but more so that it’s straightforward in communicating only relevant information to the player the entire game revolves around you exploring different islands in their cave systems each cave can be explored and mined through in order for you to find enemies resources and items that will allow you to spawn in a boss now the boss’s combat style and how you spawn them in is extremely similar to how you do so in terraria to give you an example most bosses will require you to kill and gather a certain amount of a specific item in order to spawn a specific boss this works just like the eye of cthulhu does in terraria where you have to get these little lenses from floating eyeballs and then craft them into an item that allows you to summon the boss the boss fights themselves also feel extremely chaotic yet somewhat predictable just like they are in geraria these aren’t extremely scripted boss fights that always use the exact same rotation of abilities but rather somewhat scripted boss fights with random abilities thrown into the rotation once in a while one of the things it also does arguably better than terraria is the fact that it gives you a very clear-cut quest as to where you should be going and what you should be doing next this of course can be totally ignored but by finishing these quests you’ll be rewarded with special items such as a unique trinket nikesi also has an amazing colony and farming sim element to it where you can manage people you hire to work at your home island in order to have them do everything from protecting you from enemy raids to having them simply plant and grow your crops for you my personal favorite thing they can do though is have them organize all your chests for you that way you don’t have to clean up after your teammates for hours on in next on our list of games is going to be stardew valley if you haven’t heard of stardew valley before just know it is a 2d farming and life sim rpg game where you will inherit a run-down farm and be tasked with building it up into a thriving one while also helping to support your town the game has many many rpg-like elements to it such as making relationships and even marrying your own fellow townsfolk however if you want to marry more than one townsfolk at a time you’re going to have to download a polygamy mod and yes that is a thing the main story however will see you finishing short quests and fixing up a community building inside the town to finish it though you will have to engage in many aspects of the game and one of these aspects is the game’s combat but when compared to terraria’s intense boss fights weapon variety and mobility it’s not even on the same playing field the game seems to think of combat as more of a side feature rather than your primary goal within the game so just make sure you understand that this is more of a life and farming sim than it is a combat oriented game if you do decide to pick it up with all that being said if you are looking for a more relaxing and chilled out experience with some terraria rpg-like elements involved in it then stardew valley would be a great place for you to kick back relax and enjoy the ride already we’ve got three more games to go and this one is going to be kind of a mishmash of all the different don’t starve together games this includes don’t starve together and the don’t starve together franchise don’t starve together is arguably the souls-like version of terraria yes it’s a survival crafting game like many other games on this list and shares the 2d art style that all the other ones do as well but a large part of the game is simply learning how to keep yourself fed and surviving through all the various seasons that the game will go through the reason i say this is a souls like game is because it has many frustrating situations that you can get in where you’ll be fighting a boss or some other mob and then you’ll die resulting in you being absolutely fuming the combat that you’ll engage in is also very much so in and out with a simplistic attack style of just clicking in the direction you want to attack but being very very punishing for the times you do manage to mess it up or punishing until you learn the attack patterns of your enemy you see when you die in the don’t starve games you will become a ghost you’ll then have a specific set amount of time to figure out how you’re going to resurrect yourself if you can’t do it within that period of time then you will be restarting your playthrough all the way from the beginning some of the nice things about the game though is that there are many different characters for you to play as you could play as groot junior sorry i meant to say a plant monster a man who grows beards for warmth during the winter and a guy who gets stronger the more full he is and weaker whenever he’s hungry of course the list of characters does not stop there but i’ll leave the rest of them for you to discover yourself it truly takes that survival part of survival games and makes it the most important element for you to worry about following that is going to be starbound and starbound is a 2d open world sci-fi survival and crafting game and to be honest with you starbound on its surface is probably the most similar game on our list to terraria however there are quite a few very important differences these include things like it being heavily story driven the story also gives you a helping hand in the sense that it constantly sends you towards what you probably should be trying to do next with that being said you can’t ignore a lot of the story should you choose to and just explore the world without any guidance starbound also has several different bosses and each of them felt significantly more challenging than what you might experience in a normal game of terraria excluding of course some of the n-bosses they also have more predetermined attack patterns so if you fight them enough eventually you will be able to memorize those patterns and figure out how to deal with each and every one of them one of my favorite things about starbound though is the huge variety in weapons there are tons of different styles of weapons such as swords stavs guns or my personal favorite the ability to throw a handful of gnomes at your enemies another important difference is the fact that there are tons of different biomes and you have the ability to travel between different planets making the entire game significantly more expansive at least in its size when compared to terraria alrighty and for our last game on this list we have core keeper hor keeper is a pve 2d top down survival game with tons of similar elements to games like terraria the whole premise of the game revolves around you progressing through different ores so you can then gather the next tier of auras in the following biome this creates a relatively linear progression path but each biome has its own armors enemies bosses and unique items the best way to think of it is just like terraria you might farm up some copper or iron armor before taking on your first boss then you might want to farm that first boss to make items to help you defeat the next one and defeat the mobs in the next zone each of the boss fights that you’re going to encounter will most likely feel interesting and unique as well as challenging which is nice to see in games like this the game currently also has several major biomes and each one of them have their own dedicated boss or boss is in some cases you can also start to progress your character’s stats and then bring them between different worlds in the same way that you would in terraria now the game does have some overall plot at this point in time but it has a much more sandboxy feeling to it when you play so i wouldn’t go into the game thinking this is going to be some heavily story driven game here because the story is more supportive than it is the driving force if terraria had a top-down view then core keeper would definitely be the closest thing you could find to terraria between all the boss fights loot gathering and many other small systems such as logistics that are put into the game i honestly feel that core keeper is one of the best and closest things to terraria that we currently have out in the market today and that we have seen in a very long time now before we close out the video i want to quickly mention you can check out each one of these games more in depth via the description below where you’ll be able to see our in-depth reviews 1. I'm bummed Starbound and Don't Starve don't scratch 2% the itch Terraria does, excited to try Keplerth and Necesse and I'm having a blast with Core Keeper, but after 2-3 sessions I'm almost done with it, excited to check it out on full release when there's more tiers and bosses

  2. I would like to add Dig or Die. It’s a much smaller game than Terraria, but it has more of a focus on base construction and tower defense.

  3. To finish Stardew valley now, you need to complete “perfection” the game is wayy bigger than it use to be, with an entire island you can now unlock and make a second farm on, Ginger island.
Also 1.6 is right around the corner which is going to add even more content.
Stardew is one of the best games every made, hands down. And the updates are free, so $15 is more than worth it, not including all the mods, and there’s a HUGE library of mods, the community is quite big. And the dev has made the game easier for the modding community to mod it.
What else more could you ask for.
