Why you should play on the Riverlands Farm in Stardew Valley 1.6

there are quite a few rdit posts out there where people complain about choosing the riverlands farm that it’s the worst Farm type and essentially the hard mode of stardy Valley but is that true is it really that bad I spent one ingame year on the riverlands farm and I think that’s enough time to give it a fair review I’ll be talking about what I like about it don’t like and lastly who I would recommend it to let’s get into it first of all and probably the most important point on this list the fish smoker riverlands is the the only Farm type where we start out with an Artis machine on day one this doubles the sell price of any fish including legendary ones I mentioned before that this seems kind of overpowered but at that point I didn’t know how good this would actually be on a regular playthrough on any other Farm most people probably wouldn’t go out of their way to spend that much money on a recipe early on unless you’re a season player who has a specific Strat in mind you need 10K alone for the recipe which you can buy from Willie then you need to upgrade your axe to get 10 hardwood and on top of that you need one of each of the new jellies River sea and Cave quite the extensive recipe so by starting out on riverlands you secure yourself a nice bump of income provided you actually use the machine and you don’t need to stress about getting the recipe because one fish smoker is all you need early on it takes a bit less than one in-game hour to process any fish but the downside is that the machine needs one coal per fish to be able to operate but that’s not that bad in my opinion you have a pretty good chance of getting coal from treasure chests while you’re fishing which you definitely want to prioritize try to get to level five in fishing as soon as you can to benefit from the Fisher profession the first four days of playing you’ll probably spend fishing anyways because let’s be realistic what else would you do besides running around and collecting for aables ideally at the mountain lake for large Mount bass and when it’s raining in town or the farm itself for catfish as mentioned before smoked fish benefit from the Fisher but also the angler and Artis in profession essentially more than cring the sell price of your fish the highest selling non- legendary fish in the game is the lava eel so try to set up a pwn for that as soon as you can but that’s more something for late to Mid game so I won’t go over that for now but you get the idea also smoked fish keep the quality from the ones you put inside in the machines which means even more money I found myself very often fishing at my farm and just having the smoker right next to me and refilling it every 15 iname minutes fishing always has been a viable Strat early on but with the fish smoker it’s even better now next point I want to talk about are ducks yes Ducks why Ducks because they’re awesome when I did my 25 minutes details video I learned that ducks can swim in ponds and rivers I knew that they can swim on the beach Farm but on riverlands Ducks will swim in the water pretty much every day day provided you didn’t block off the area with too many fences it’s raining or winter of course now why is this important besides being the most adorable feature ever ducks that swim in the water do not need hay or grass to be fed overnight it’s nothing gamebreaking but it’s a nice little feature that fits really well on the riverlands farm since there’s so little space for grass to grow speaking about water riverlands is the only Farm where bubble spots are enabled and you’ll see them constantly it is totally viable to spend a whole day fishing on your property you have a 70% chance to fish up town river fish and a 30% chance for fish that are found in the Cinders sap Forest on almost any other Farm you don’t really want to fish on because you’ll mostly end up fishing for trash with the exception of the beach Farm another thing I want to mention is that you don’t really need to worry about fences to keep your animals in one place now this is more personal but I’ve read that a lot of other people people also don’t really bother making fences on this Farm besides for decoration purposes I ended up placing most of my animal buildings on this large island in the middle and crafted my first fence gate at the end of winter but again mainly for decorating animals don’t really wander off the little Islands unless you have like no grass at all and I didn’t want it to use fences anyways so that my ducks can freely move in and out of the water let’s take a look at the overall Farm map and a few things that I don’t like about it it has exactly 1,578 tillable tiles with 516 being non tillable but you can build on which makes it the fourth rank in terms of farm area it’s chaotic and forces you to go out of your way to build with the map design instead of making your own and I didn’t mind that one bit you see this tree farm it’s the tiniest one you’ve ever seen ever one thing that bothered me the most is a good amount of materials that you lose while cleaning up your farm you know when you chop trees in the CIP forest and some of the wood falls into the water yeah that will happen a lot on this farm that includes rocks weeds wood and sadly even artifacts but thankfully this doesn’t affect machines so to sum up the pros about the riverlands farm you get a free fish smoker on day one bubble spots are enabled you can see your Duck swimming on a daily base and save some hay or grass while they’re in the water and you don’t need to waste a ton of wood on fences the downsides are there’s obviously very little space for buildings and crops and you’ll have raw materials fall into the water unless you stand right on top of it so who do I recommend this Farm to definitely not for beginners but if you’re someone like me who played through stardy Valley a bunch of times and want to switch things up a bit and try something new then I’d give this one a go and obviously you have to be somewhat interested in fishing I know there’s going to be at least one person commenting saying no it’s the worst Farm in the entire game and that’s totally cool because I’m not here to convince you that this is the best farm type because it’s not Forest Farm will forever be my favorite but I genuinely enjoyed my time playing on here and I’m super excited to continue now I didn’t show that much of my farm layout here because I’m actually working on a little project right now which I hope you’re going to check out once I upload it and I don’t
