I didn’t do as you guys said but tried other ways. Am I wasting too much redstone?

I asked you guys for help on my last post (2nd) pic and you guys told me to use redstone dust above the stone to light the next lamp. But I just mined a lot of redstone and made redstone blocks and placed them in the sequence I wanted the lights to glow.

My question is: Am I wasting too much redstone? Is there a better way?
