In this video I try beating Terraria using Whips only however I installed some mods that add in many new whips that each have their own unique effects and accessories to help strengthen them. The mana depletion was only based on which weapon they had in their hand… so whenever they used the wand of frosting to attack for all the weapons at once, it was only consuming 1 mana each time… although the content is great, and probably would have been more agitating to have your mana depleted each time you casted, I argue that there could have been some balance by decreasing the damage dealt or increasing mana consumption in one way or another.

Necro, I don't know if you never noticed or never bothered. But it says what the weapon/item got as a modifier when you go to reforge it, just above the character where it displays what item was picked up. It's pretty useful in seeing what you got so you don't have to move off of the reforge button to check what modifier it got.
