Welcome back Terraria Calamity fans! For this 9th episode of my Calamity Music Reaction series, we finally tackle one of the big ones, the trilogy that a lot of you have been waiting for: The Devourer of Gods Trilogy. In this episode I take a listen to each individual track in the soundtrack version that includes “Servants of the Scourge”, “Scourge of the Universe” and “Universal Collapse”. But afterwards, I then listen to the “Devourer of Gods” non-stop mix version. Prepare for an epic time!

  1. It's funny that you should mention the theme sounds militaristic. While I'm sure this wasn't planned at the original writing of this song, as its far older than even the previous lore, the Devourer of Gods is 'technically' (Cryogen exists but the Archmage held within has long split off), the first of the main antagonists 'henchmen' that you defeat, though his allegiance lies only with himself. Up until this point the player had been facing mostly the detritus of the war, abandoned weapons, nasty infection and unaligned beasts.

Post DoG, your enemies are all in some way associated with Yharim and his army, so the militaristic structure makes sense.

  2. THIS is the episode I’ve been waiting for. Also, really glad that you’ve basically kept with the progression order. Some of the tracks in the official order are out of order with progressing through the modpack.

  3. "The chorus change sounds like an imavision, or an armada of minions swarming in the battlefield"
Well, except the Servants, there's no minions … tho, the Devourer of Gods do swarm the battlefield with its sheer SIZE ! And it's meant to be even larger in a later update !
A size for a God, who doesn't fear death, kid …

  4. The part when you get to fight the servants and eventually DoG, is my favorite part of the mod, you can feel the passion, the efforts and the love the devs put in that part, and the OST amplifies all those feelings to the MAX level, you can feel how well made was that part in the mod… This is a true MASTERPIECE

  5. Servents of the scorge, scorge of the universe, and universal collapse are all inspired by dm dokaro's remix of "final battle" from cave story. That was the placeholder theme for the devourer of gods

  6. Throughout the last 6 years iv listened to many songs and been through many phases, i got into undertale, genshin impact, anime and a lot of other music and loved them all. But there was no point when anything got even close to Calamity's ost, especially this one

  7. The bells I like to imagine the most powerful and god-like entities you fight in Calamity. And the bells give off that feeling of the presence of a god or god-like entity. Which explains why it becomes so prominent later in the soundtrack. Because you start fighting these god-like entities and their power can be conveyed through the bells. Which some songs I think act as a call or herald to the entity and the louder the bells shows the presence of the god-like being in front of you trying to stop your progress in obtaining victory against them.

  8. we're coming to the end of the ost, and the last few songs are the absolute best in the whole soundtrack, these ones being part of that, cant wait for you to get to roar of the jungle dragon and stained brutal calamity, they will absolutely blow your mind and imo are DM Dokuros absolute masterpieces above all else

  9. Just woke up to this. If you plan on covering any songs after this from Calamity, I would recommend doing Infernal Catharsis and THEN Roar of the Jungle Dragon, in that order. They're a duo of songs that are meant to be played in said order because they're from the same thing. Anyways, cheers!
