Every year, Mojang gives us a brand new decision to make in the form of a Minecraft Mob Vote. Since 2017, the community has had to fight and argue with each other, all in the name of choosing which new monster is going to get added into the game. From the Phantom, Panda, Glow Squid, Allay, and Sniffer, we’ve seen a wide variety of mobs get added… however, we’ve also lost quite a few great ones. This year’s candidates, the Crab, Armadillo, and Penguin have each started the classic internet discourse of which one deserves to win, but have also sparked a community revolution asking… should the Mob Vote even exist? In this video, we’re going to talk about that, alongside telling you about the newest mobs, and giving our thoughts on all of this. So, without any further ado… let’s get right into it.

  1. They should stop the votes. They should also stop the nerfs. No villager nerfs. No netherite nerfs. Undo v1.20 so I can feel like playing the game again. Until that happens, I'm just done with it forever. They don't give a shit about any players except the SMP influencers, that's the real fact of the matter.

  2. before watching the video (I will watch, I just want to say my piece without influence from the video, I may or may not comment with additional thoughts after watching)

    the mob vote has a high chance of a minority of players getting the mob they want and a majority not getting it. worst case scenario is a 33/33/34 split.

    historical round 1 voting (with all options available, and including the biome vote):
    * Phantom: 27% round 1 (4 options)

    * Taiga: 57% round 1

    * Mountains: 46% round 1

    * Glow Squid: 37% round 1

    * Allay: 51% round 1

    * Sniffer: 55% round 1

    half the mob/biome votes have resulted in the minority winning their preferred choice

    the biome votes ended up the fairest. 57% was a majority, 46% was a near-majority
    the mob votes have faired worse. best case was 51 and 55%, worst cases were 37 (barely better than 1/3) and 27% (barely better than 1/4)

    now with all of that said, I would be okay with a mob vote between TWO options. that means, between the two options, there will be a majority that prefer one over the other (baring any trolls)

    I would also be okay with them just dropping the vote. I am not okay with a system that lets a minority of players decide for the majority what mob we get (as I understand it, they've shifted to a single round voting system, which allows the vote to take place over a longer time period to be more inclusive to all time zones but at the cost of the least desired mob's voters not getting a chance to pick their second favorite in a second round vote).

    bonus…

    I've also considered a crazy system where there could be 3 mobs, but they're done in an A v B, B v C, C v A simultaneous vote

    1: whichever mob wins in both representations wins
    2: if all mobs win 1 each, sum the percentage of votes and highest total wins (this total will exceed 100%)
    3: if there is ever a 2-way tie, look at the 2-way vote of the tied mobs and there is your tie-breaker
    4: if there is a 3-way tie (all winners had the same winning percentage), an A v B v C vote is needed (can be done with the three 2-way votes and only used in the exceedingly rare case of no winner) and even if a minority wins, it's still a preferred mob by a majority of players
    5: if all 2-way votes are 50/50 and the 3-way vote is a perfect 1/3 split, the least likely scenario by far, there's no getting around a 3-way tie

    there's more voting, but in all but the rarest case (see 5) there WILL be a definitive winner preferred by a majority of players (as demonstrated by the 2-way votes)

  3. Ive been an advocate for eliminating the mob vote, after the community proved it couldnt be relied on to vote, when they voted for the Phantom.
    The Phantom is the most annoying and hated mob in MC, and guess what, you masochists who voted it in, are to blame, and the community wants to see you tarred and feathered for your bad choice…

  4. Honestly, the Mob Vote thing is just a waste of time and is super counter-productive. I'd rather it end than to continue. Just give us mobs you were thinking about adding, don't like add one of three because a bunch of Dream fans or whatever voted the meme one or something.

  5. Why do people hate the Mob Vote so much? They always think that 6 hours of non-stop work, testing and writing code about a random mob they are forced to create, because the people are so close to invading their offices and they voted for crap, I don't blame Mojang. The community is behind all. You saw that with Notch.

  6. For the people who genuinely care about the game we don't really "Have a voice". Influential people such as yourself can claim or sway their large following to vote for a mob. Im not saying you would ever do that, however we've seen happen already with Dream. I truly appreciate you Ant for all you do for the minecraft community but I believe you are being to optimistic about the intentions of a corporation and the Mob Vote. On top of this they've told us that some of these mobs while they might lose will not be gone forever and yet 4, 5, 8 years later there is no sign of any of them ever returning.

  7. Maybe could do them like the some vote things they did, all of the mobs will be added but the one that wins is the first one added, like that spruce forest change?

  8. the last years mob vote was rigged sniffer won for 1 archeology update a sniffer egg ancient things and decorative plants useless i thought i would love this archeology update but it was not good and game theory made a video about it mostly about the archeology update
