The most annoying probability in Terraria: the Traveling Merchant

  1. It's not particularly *hard*, just tedious and completely useless in normal gameplay
I still won't be including it in the next "rarest event" video since if I open the door to the "rarest tick" then stuff gets really out of hand with biome spread and stuffs.

And for those wondering why luck is acting on everything, it would be the "rarest Traveling Merchant possible" in both drops and "journey" of obtaining? In that luck acted against us the whole time (which itself is unlucky) and we still managed to roll everything.

  2. Relogic wanting to make terraria 2 because of there being too much code in terraria makes more sense the more I learn about the game

  3. Why? As a programmer myself i don't see the need to complicate it this much. Was there a specific reason they did it like this or was the code so old that fixing it might break the game so they just didn't bother? making a more predictable system is always better, both for the devs and the players who learn how to use it.

  4. Would a primitive AI help to calculate the odds? I don't know enough about AI to know how much it would help but I think it could given all the information.

  5. This is a nice example of a problem made much easier by knowing a noob-friendly programming language like Julia or Python! You can create functions for all the sub-calculations, combine them until you arrive at a function that can determine the rarity of an item given the preconditions, and then just launch it in a loop and go do something else for a bit as it crunches the numbers itself.

I can't be bothered to a) actually do this or b) estimate the complexity, but especially with Julia which is terrifyingly efficient for crap like that it shouldn't take long on a modern processor, probably somewhere between a second and something like 20 minutes. Sure beats going mad with a calculator!

  6. just yesterday i had a travelling merchant with both the halo and black counterweight. i end up seeing the halo in every playthrough, somehow

i have yet to get either zapinator on any playthrough, lol

  7. Oh my god terrasteel. I just wanted to watch a normal terraria videos and then i see „Yuuma, the blue tiger“ and IMMEADETELY im not even safe here from furries AGGHH.
I JUST WANT STATS AND GAMING

  8. Can you do a video on the possibility of only using terraria reference items, easter eggs, and crossover items for armor and weapons (OneDrop crossover and using easter egg vanity i. e. the vanity set in the mushroom biome for prehardmode)

  9. Even if you don’t use the traveling merchant m’s shop in the calculation, you can still use a 1 in ten chance of the traveling merchant spawning on the same frame of the zombies death, (unless you’re already doing something like a blood moon spawning and/or a mech boss spawning)
