All the designs I’ve seen require a repeater, which this does not.

Repeater is arguably cheaper than a target block, and only using 2 dust/signal strength lead to bleed over when the system backs up

the torch will burn out, not tilable with itself due to signal bleed, will break. this is OK with a slow item stream input if all you want to do is remove 1 item
