Why does nobody use this weapon in Terraria? The Unholy Trident. In this video, I take a look at this post-mechanical boss powerful mage weapon which can be obtained from Red Devils in the underworld. It rarely gets talked about despite been in the game since Terraria 1.2, does it deserve more attention?

  1. Unholy trident it's one of those weapons I found out looking through the wiki in 1.4

It's definitely powerful, however as some people have said, sometimes you forget Underworld exists and still has things once you get into Hardmode.

  2. I tried getting this item, not only where red devils strangely rare, but I could never get it to drop when I did find them. If I stayed longer I could probably get it but I just gave up and got a different weapon

  3. This weapon is actually garbage when you consider the time that it takes to get it also the other things you’re probably doing at the time you’re never going to be in the underworld long enough.

  4. I actually got this weapon on my 1.4 switch playthrough and was so taken aback cause I'd forgotten that thing was in the game and was amazed by it's performance cause it dropped with a good modifier (godly I think)

  5. I know this is a video from ages ago, maybe you've already done this, but… Duke Fishron is usually fought after Plantera, and you're using a mount dropped from the Duke, while fighting Plantera. I just think it might make the fight a little easier for the dodging.

  6. I honestly wish The Underworld would have to be revisited for some reason, whether it be a new boss or a new ore or a new set of enemies with new drops, whatever it may be. Most of the biomes in the game with a major role in progression, being the Jungle, the Corruption/Crimson, the Cavern layer, the Dungeon & the Underworld, get revisited in hardmode.

The Jungle biome is visited in Pre-Hardmode for things like the Jungle Armor, Mana Flower, Blade of Grass, Feral Claws, Anklet of the Wind, Fiberglass Fishing Pole, Queen Bee, etc. But it's visited again in Hardmode because of Chlorophyte ore, life fruits, Plantera, and Golem. And moths as well, if you want the butterfly wings.

The Corruption/Crimson is visited in Pre-Hardmode for loot dropped by the shadow orbs/crimson hearts and of course for the Eater of Worlds/Brain of Cthulhu. But it's visited once again in Hardmode because of souls of night, cursed flames/ichor, being able to break the altars, and Corrupt/Crimson mimics.

The Cavern/underground layer is visited in Pre-Harmode because of the sheer amount of loot found there. Ores, Life Crystals, Gold Chests, Glowing Mushroom Biomes, tons of enemy drops, etc. In Hardmode you go back underground for the hardmode ores, as well as spider fangs for the Spider Armor, the underground hallowed & evil biomes, the ice biome for the Frozen Turtle Shell or Ice Sickle, the underground Desert for Forbidden Fragments, etc.

The Dungeon is visited in Pre-Hardmode much like the cavern/underground layer simply because of the sheer amount of loot there. The enemies drop bones used in crafting multiple things, the chests have plenty of useful weapons for most classes like the Muramasa, the Blue Moon, the Valor, the Handgun, the Magic Missile, the Aqua Scepter, as well as the Shadow Key & Obsidian Shield. One thing I've also found unfortunate about this stage is how the Underworld has weapons extremely similar to the Dungeon weapons, so the Dungeon weapons get replaced very very fast. The Blue Moon almost instantly is replaced by the Sunfury, the Valor is replaced by the Cascade, and the Magic Missile is replaced by the Flamelash, etc. And of course the Dungeon is re-visited in Hardmode due to all-new enemies and drops. The Paladin's Hammer & Shield, Tactical Shotgun, Wisp in a Bottle, Magnet Sphere, Inferno Fork, Spectre Staff, Shadowbeam Staff, all the biome chest weapons, there is simply way too much to count.

And of course, the Underworld is visited in Pre-Hardmode for the Wall of Flesh, as well as the amazing loot found. Hellstone, accessories like the Magma Stone, Treasure Magnet & the Obsidian Rose, all the weapons like the Dark Lance, Sunfury, Hellwing Bow, Flamelash & Flower of Fire, potions like Lifeforce & Potion of Return, all things that are very helpful against the Wall of Flesh and in very early Harmode. But this is the only biome in the game that holds a major role in progression that only gets visited once. Of course you can go down post-mech bosses if you want the Unholy Trident. But why would you? There's no incentive to.

With the other biomes, the game incentivises you to revisit them in Harmode. After killing the final mech boss, the message The Jungle grows restless… shows up, making the player go there. Once Hardmode begins, the player will notice the evil biome having spread in a big area underground, getting them to explore. Once the player breaks the altars, they get messages that new ores have been spawned in, and they get to mining. Once Plantera has been killed, the message Screams are echoing from the Dungeon… is shown, getting the player to go there. But the player has literally no reason whatsoever to go back to the Underworld. It's such a one and done biome and I think that is such a shame. I love the Underworld as a biome and as a milestone in game progression. I just really wish it could be expanded upon in Hardmode, with more new enemies, more new items, maybe even a new boss.

  7. I feel like the trident being under represented comes from the existence of the inferno fork. Watching your video on it I literally said to myself ah yes the inferno fork, easy to obtain it just drops from the red devils in hell. It's the kind of weapon people naturally associate with hell, so if it isn't there than why would anything else be there at that specific point.

  8. I think the weapon gets undermined just because of the other amazing options you can get that this point in the game. Technically only 1 mech boss is required to beat it, but weapons like the crystal serpent, golden shower, poison staff (all of which don’t require a mech boss to be beaten) and magic harp (if you kill the twins first) all can very easily out DPS this weapon. On top of this, the projectiles it shoots are relatively slow, which means that it can be particularly difficult to hit bosses with it. And again, even if you want to use it for farming invasions, the alternatives work just as well, if not better. If you want to play mage and fight Plantera, then something like the venom staff will easily be a better option because of its wide range making it easy to hit her and her tendrils during phase two, on top of the venom Debuff.

  9. Got a disagree with the ease of obtaining. Red devils hardly spawn and it took me around 2 hours to get it because there's so much waiting between their spawns

  10. I've known about this weapon for a very long time. But it's never a weapon I sought after much, because back in the days of 1.1 to early 1.3 I almost always mained melee. It wasn't until later in 1.3 where I decided to play through every class with everything they had to offer and fell in love with the ranger class. But by then, I gained enough skill to take down Duke Fishron in early hard mode. But on the off chance I don't, and I'm on a mage playthrough, I do go after this weapon

  11. reason i didnt use it was because it ate mana like crazy and yes this does matter since the mana potion debuff decreases your dmg by up to 50 % also the meteor staff was quicker to optain and cooler

  12. I actually got this weapon on a mage run with the ruthless modifier I tried it out and the only problem with is the insane mana cost so unless your patient which most people aren’t and just use mana flower instead of using celestial cuffs and accessories that combine putrid scent with mana flower it also has no major special effects
