This weapon is FINALLY worth it in Terraria 1.4.4. Terraria 1.4.4 the labour of love update is here! And comes with a ton of weapons balancing changes which has completely overhauled the way the melee class functions. Weapons like the Terra Blade and Excalibur have seen massive improvements, which has similarly effected the Night’s Edge, a legendary Terraria weapon was rather underwhelming in the past, now packs a massive punch due to the 1.4.4 changes!

Guess I'll actually be crafting this thing now in melee playthroughs!
Melee was already the coolest, easiest to use, most fun, and best class in the game. And the mad lads at relogic decided to makes melee EVEN COOLER in 1.4.4.
this item might be the best melee for pre hardmode later being upgraded to the true nights edge giving it a small bit more power and finally the terrablade which is probably the best pre moon lord melee weapon then that gets upgraded to the zenith so it wont be lying in a chest for long

Melee is simply put the most powerful class in the game now. With so many good melee weapon options and a bunch of reworked melee weapons that are now simply amazing (specifically the Zenith crafting tree), having no need for ammunition or mana management, projectiles on the better weapons that beat out the other classes any day of the week, the highest defense armor of any of the classes, and having the objectively most powerful weapon in the game at the end of the game, the Zenith.
I killed the destroyer with this thing in master mode. new nights edge is busted.
(also even before this you were probably going to make the nights edge if you were melee because of the terrablade and later the zenith)

Literally. I only used to make it to craft Terrablade later, because I totally prefered Fiery Greatsword and even Muramasa (because of its speed), but now I was amazed to find out how good the Night's Edge has become. I actually defeated the Wall of Flesh using it mostly (in expert mode)
Had a world that I wanted to max out in prehardmode for a year now. And I remember loving Night's edge despite its shortcomings. Now I genuinely have more fun with it in my melee warrior in that world!
I do believe they are better it is just the old nights edge having memories that makes me want that instead.
This sword in pre hardmode master mode is a must have

This went from trash to a pretty good late prehardmode to early hardmode weapon, it’s also easier to make since the crafting tree all got buffed, lights bane my beloved
yes it literaly oblitareted the wall of fesh that was killing me 1 year ago
still think star cannon is a bit better
I use the leaf sword to take down eye of cuthulu and then lights bane/crimson sword to take down the evil biome boss and then volcano for skeletron and get the muramasa and make the nights edge to beat wof and the mech bosses and then true nights edge for plantera and terrablade all the way to moonlord
The blade of grass is really underated as a pre boss sword, its leaf projectiles can shred the eye of cuthulu
