Hi! Need help in what appears to be a bud-powered piston (details in comments)

Hi! I was making a bubblevator and came up with this design to push and pull a soulsand block in the collum to go to the next floor. The piston in the lower module is stuck after I click the noteblock, after updating the blocks adjacent to the piston it deactivates, however, the upper module is built exactly like the lower and works. Any idea on how to fix? Thanks
