We made a Mailbox system for offline players on our server (we have a locking chest/container mod) This way, when a player is offline, you can use the named green wool in the item frame, and place your item in the chest/barrel. Once they collect- they replace the green named wool with red. :)

    Can also be used if you and your friends are never on at the same time, notes can be left with a book and quill etc. ( I am using the “Vanilla Evolved” Resource/Texture pack. The same thing can be achieved in 100% Vanilla Minecraft. )
