Journey Mode was added in the Terraria 1.4 update, which has been out for some time now. Yet, journey mode in Terraria is criminally underrated for what it is, despite its many benefits like increased convenience and freedom. With the option to play expert, or even master mode on journey worlds, more people should be playing journey. I argue that a journey world is all you need, unless you’re playing a hardcore challenge playthrough. Otherwise, everything you need or want to do can be done in journey worlds.

  1. The fact you can change the spawn rate of mobs and switch to master mode for extra difficult is awesome!
But I think you can’t get the real master experience as you could be tempted by the multiplication system

  2. Oh. I forgot that I could change the dificulty in journey mode. It will make completing my summon, mount and pet collection easier! I want that scutlix mount so baddly!

  3. Yeah but the thing is i did start my best playthrough on classic 😂 and now i have to start over after i beat the game😢

  4. when i decided to craft the phone for the first time i did it in journey mode so that i could speed up the time to buy all neccesary accesories from the merchant and to do all the fishing missions, it still took me 2 days to get it. Cant imagine the pain of getting the phone without speeding up time and skipping days

  5. I've only ever used Journey mode for a ranger playthrough because i could not be bothered grinding ammo, it was also my first attempt at playing expert since before then i always only played normal

  6. The item Duplication thing is a very nice feature, bacause of the effort you have to put in. It is as you said, that most Items are far too easy to duplicate because the research needs too few items, however at least it is still there. In Dragonquest builders 2, there also was a feature do duplicate things and that was not even in an easy mode. There you also had to finish certain things to get the ability to do that and for building this is a really nice thing, in my opinion.

  7. Your reasons for playing journey mode are the reasons I don't want to play it. All the inconveniences of a standard play through makes it for me. Don't get me wrong I like that the game mode exists and all that but it's just not for me. I don't want any advantage and I don't think I'm owed anything if mess something up like if I spawn a boss too late in the night and it flies off? welp you should have thought that one through. Been grinding for the dungeon keys and it's taking longer than usual? damn that's unlucky but Imma keep grinding. The point I'm trying to make is I love the feeling of accomplishment and all the features in journey mode detract from it.

  8. I’ve never used journey mode but I might make a journey world just to practise my builds that I can use in other world

  9. Terraria at it's core is a sandbox game. There is no "correct" way to play the game. Even if it wasn't a sandbox game…. it's still a videogame, play it however you want. I personally don't have a problem with cheating, as long as it isn't in a competitive setting. I play the game with or without cheating whenever I feel like it. Some days I feel like fighting duke fishron with underpowered gear, and other days I feel like turning on the hero's mod and spawn killing 20 moonlords. Cheating can be just as fun as playing the game how the developers "intended". I don't know why so many people are SO against using cheats (Unless your cheating in a competitive setting). Just play the game how you want. If you have fun turning on god mode, then by all means do it. Or if you have fun by not cheating at all, again by all means, do it. But don't rag on a game mode because it's not what you enjoy, and don't tell other people that they shouldn't.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk

  10. I personally started playing about a month ago so I find journey mode quite useful due to the fact that duplication helps me to gather A lot of items quickly. Mainly to the fact that I don't know how to build functional farms

  11. You made me hate journey mode more
now i wish to delete the code that bestows life to this pestilence because it's mear existence is an insult to my fabric of life and to every nuanced mechanic that's spins the Motor of my brain that weaves my personalty and is the fine wall that separates humans and animals i only wish Malice upon it's creator itself and it's supporters

  12. i play on console, so i dont have the option to download quality of life mods, i only ever use journey to dupe grindy items (i had to kill 14 golems for a sun stone and i wanted multiple shells)

  13. I don't use journey mode because of the temptation of cheating and you can't do legendary mode on world's like getfixedboi I like playing legendary mode for the fun and difficulty level. But otherwise it's good to play journey mode

  14. Journey mode and all it's features were made for players to use, so using them isn't cheating.

Difficulties exist for different gameplay experience. If you want to relax play the lowest, if you seek challenge play the highest.

  15. thanks so much for this vid, earned my like and sub for that useful info. I was also one of those who thought journey is basically easy/crafting mode

  16. I avoid Journey mode specifically because I like the limitations you start with. Many of the things journey mode does are also done by items you can earn, and I feel more rewarded overcoming these shortcomings through work.

  17. There are two main reasons that I avoid journey mode. One, putting in the work to initially grind and then just avoiding it for the rest of the game feels like cheating to me. Two, I will have a NEED to dupe everything. Every. Single. Thing.
I added the "to me" part, because this is, at its core, a sandbox game. Sure, some items are locked behind bosses and such, but Terraria is action-adventure first and sandbox second. As such, there are lots of ways to play the game. Something that might violate my cheating standards may not violate yours. That should be respected. If you wanna play, that's fine. I probably won't, though. Not until I get every achievement, and complete a non-Journey playthrough of Master mode.

  18. Sounds like manipulation, still, all the cheat panel is still cheat panel, especially if u play multiplayer, ur friend may not want to cheat, how will he trust u what u didnt cheat. Master mode after 1-2 play through seems easy enough to relax in it even on bosses

  19. I always play on Jorney, reason is only because I stop evil spread, as I like to play exploring caves instead of blowing my way to the wall of Flesh.

  20. i exclusivly play jouurney with difficulty up to expert or master because as much as i love this game i just dont want to spend the time grinding things to death. im currently playing a jouuney master infernum calamity mod playthrough and man am i glad for journey because grinding all the potions i need to even have a chance in that mod would be hell, i think since i have started i have gone through like a 100 of each potion i have been using for fights and im currently stuck on reg skeleton, if i had to wait for nights and grind all those potions i would be spending more time grinding than actually fighting the bosses.

  21. This is a good video, I am just not disciplined enough to not dupe the hell out of everything. I do like the approach of "Respects your time", because after starting around 1.2 I really hate how much has been added to the game, and these days it really doesn't respect my time.

  22. you see, almost all of the benefits listed in the video are described as time savers. my main problem with this is that terraria has sooo much raw content and things to do spread across the world and the game is designed to break up your time on the world to push you into doing other things instead of just allowing you to laser focus on one task. in my opinion it just isnt as fulfilling completing tasks in the game when you pushed sliders in order to make it more convenient. maybe if you have already completed the game numerous times on most of the different classes and experienced most of what the game has to offer than journey mode could be for you, but especially for newer players it just seems like a waste of a playthrough to spend it on journey mode

  23. Honestly, journey mode’s just a modded version of Terraria but in vanilla. Of course it’s missing a bunch of other things that make modded special, but all the journey mode powers are basically what you’d get in an average modded playthrough. I don’t know why I haven’t tried this yet.

  24. Huh. Just recently came back after years to try out the Calamity mod max difficulty, with a bunch of QoL mods like Mutant, Hero, Recipe Search, and Magic Chests.
Instead of waiting around for a Blood Moon (or weather events, etc) I can just pop a reusable item and force it to happen. I can use a small amount of resources to make convenient searchable storage with integrated crafting. If I died to Skeletron and need to wait a day to respawn the NPC, just use time controls. I'm not cheating anything but TIME. Probably would have just started on Journey and amped up the difficulty if I knew that was a thing… still need the other mods, though. Manual inventory management is TERRIBLE.

  25. I use Journey mode as my "messing around" mode
When I want to play Terraria but don't feel like starting a new playthrough. I just start my journey character and just mess around, building stuff and testing tings, just to chill

  26. Journey difficulty is too easy to be comparable to even normal difficulty and no argument will change that just because of one single fact: It removes the sense of urgenty. No argument will change that fact. Unless it's the argument that you don't use the cheat menu but then why the hell are you in the journey difficulty in the first place? Unless you're there just for the difficulty of half normal difficulty. Which i won't question, people like that are built diffrent and unironically scare me.

Edit and ps: This is also a reason why you should play normal terraria, journey mode will make you soft and bored in normal terraria difficulties.

  27. This video amazed me of how despite all of this i will still be playing master mode only. I cant trust myself of the duplication: You need to kill 3 mechs in order to get the full set and some weapons, but you can get all that by killing 1 mech boss. Avoiding grinding? Sorry, but that's kinda the whole game i bought. Being an absolute god? Games are not fun if you are invulnerable and have zero risk unless you are a builder who just builds stuff and doesn't play the game. Duping potions? Tbh fair point, but as a ultra hardcore player, i dont use drugs to be stronger. Making the game even more difficult? Use melee class spear only master mode getfixedboi seed, thats when the game is difficult. So, between me and my friends journey mode is a meme difficulty just making everything easy. So 1-0 master mode, gl next time.
