  1. Ok so it seems like a lot of people are missing the point of this comparison, which is probably my fault for not making it clearer. The point is not to say that "Terraria is better than Minecraft, you shouldn't enjoy or play Minecraft because Terraria is more fun". I'm saying that Terraria is the perfect player experience, it does everything that people want a game to do, while Minecraft misses those things pretty hard. Terraria is cheap, there's basically no monetization, it's on a convenient launcher (steam), there's a small team of loving developers who respond to the community, the game has continued to get free updates for over a decade, and modding was made as convenient and accessable as possible for free. Like I said, Minecraft is not impossible to download and play (and mod), but it has enough annoying barriers that will keep far more people from fully enjoying the game. Whereas Terraria has basically none of those barriers. And to take things a step further, Terraria's development team is practically nonexistent compared to the massive team producing Minecraft, which ultimately is all backed by Microsoft. It's Bill Gates Vs. Redigit and somehow Redigit is able to absolutley demolish Minecraft in it's accessibility and ease of use.

As for why I chose to contrast Terraria's perfection to Minecraft's flaws, I mean c'mon I think the best selling video game of all time backed by the ultra giga-corporation Microsoft can handle some criticisms.

P.S. Making Minecraft models is easier than making Terraria sprites, fight me

  2. The worlds in Minecraft are labeled "infinite", but are really just 30×30 million block squares. The character that spawns in that world is bound to that world. Theoretically you could explore everything with one character.

Where Terraria lacks infinite worlds, it grants the ability to transfer both characters and items between worlds. This means that the limit to how far one character can travel is equal to how many worlds you want to create for them. Theoretically, this is more "infinite" than even minecraft.

Not to mention that terraria has world specific ores and evil biomes that are gaurenteed, whereas minecraft just tosses things around using random numbers. This makes things like mushroom biomes way too hard to find sometimes.

  3. i understand your opinion and i actually agree with it. terraria is the better game in so many aspects. but personaly, the 3d+mods has the expiriences that i preffer. i feel like we shouldnt really count bedrock edition if we want to compare it to other games, bedrock has its own demons.

also there is a cool mod called essential that allows you to easily join your friends world and the curseforge launcher allows you to easily browse and add mods like in terraria, which i think are noteworthy

Edit: i think the reason i wasnt able to click with terraria i because the "blocks" arent as clear cut as the way minecrafts grid structure handles them, which is a shame because i really wish i had properly played terraria, it looks really fun

  4. I don't get how we suddenly started making so many gameboy graphics games on the newest gen consoles. Waste of power, they could just make these games for nintendo or a lower perf. hardware.

  5. as a Minecraft fan i agree that terraria has a lot of things that are better than Minecraft since i played terraria my self ya the updates in terraria add much more than Minecraft but the thing is what keeps Minecraft alive is really just the community you said in a video about the bee update which adds honey nothing much but the community made use of the honey block in a million project and also Minecraft is an infinite world but isn't you are limited in 3 bioms in the world so you can't build every you want in terraria even if you use the sky and terraria also doesn't have servers made by the community that you can also have alot of fun like bed wars and like a million other mini game but still in terms of only playing single player with no mods or anything terraria wins

  6. Minecraft is fun for me in some ways but it is a fact that microsoft kinda suck at it, i mean like fking 1 block update every fking years god dam like atleast make vertical slabs but no there would never be

  7. Terraria is perfect because its developers are passionate and push out a lot of beefy updates with little incentive for profit? I don't see the logic. That doesn't eliminate any potential flaws the game may have.

  8. There is much more things to do in Terraria, much more loot, bosses, NPCs, accesories, overall variety, etc. In 2013-2015 it was absolutely uncomparable to Minecraft, and I doubt it has changed, as I didn't play Minecraft eversince.

Only thing Minecraft is better at is redstone computers, giant pseudo-realistic buildings, and minimalist chill vibes. If you place Minecraft into 2D, there would be so much less content and actual things to do than in Terraria. And if you make Terraria 3D, there would be much more content than in Minecraft. So saying Terraria is a 2D Minecraft is simply wrong.

Terraria is more like an adventure, and Minecraft is more like chill and vibe, a meditation game. In Minecraft you should be able to entertain yourself, while in Terraria the game entertains you non-stop, until the very end. I only imagine how mindblowing it would to play Terraria now for new players, as even in 2013 it was sucking me in for weeks.

  9. The difference is that Minecraft devs don't listen to the community, while Terraria devs actively engage with the community and communicate with them about what they want for each update.

  10. As someone with thousands of hours in both games, i'll say my peice on certain aspects.
Extra content, terraria has seeds and mods while minecraft has servers and mods. Now overall i'd say minecraft mods are better makes sense given the size of minecraft, however i will say calamity is the best experience ive ever played in a game, music, fights, visuals 10/10. Terraria has a few seeds, all changing the game drastically allowing for more unique playthroughs. Minecraft, has Hypixel and not too many other big dogs, 2b2t and others make minecraft an entirely different and unique experience aswell. And hypixels skyblock mode is very good assuming you dont play it too much. Terraria has more difficulty customization, playstyles, unique items and ultimately satifiscation. Minecraft has better multiplayer, world generation, long-term playability and building. I say building to minecraft, as you dont really get nearly the amount of space in terraria for amazing mega builds, even though it has more blocks.
Base Terraria takes progression as a win, not due to fun-ness? But due to longevity, as minecraft is equivalent to pre-hardmode.
Yes, if you actually explore in minecraft for loot, its fun😮.
People saying "netherite mining is boring" aint tested the many ways of doing it, either with explosives or pillaging bastions, doing it with strip mining is like never entering a cave in terraria, boring.

Its up to you to find out which you prefer, and how you prefer to play it. I pick terraria as my favourite, calamity is just too good, though i do play more minecraft as its easy to get burnt out of terraria

  11. As someone that has grown up with both on the xbox 360 since i was 12 (20 currently) it is astounding how terraria keeps finding ways to make the game fun and exciting after the moonlord in 1.3 whilst the MOST POPULAR GAME IN THE WORLD as of writing this has remained feeling like we just installed a modpack from 2016 at most

  12. My favourite way of playing Minecraft is with the RLCraft modpack installed, qnd in many ways that mpdpack makes Minecraft play and progress a lot like Terraria…
    🤔

  13. Okay, like I don't think that should take away from the fact that there are people, like me, who don't actually like playing Terraria. It's all about individual entertainment, and where my favorite parts of Minecraft are building, redstone, and PvP, these aspects are absent from Terraria. That's not to say Terraria is a bad game, it's considered the best game on Steam for a reason, but I personally find that there are so many more aspects to the game of Minecraft than Terraria that make it more fun for me to play.

  14. while terraria is a journey based game with indepth lore and progression, Minecraft is just an open sand which u can do almost anything in Minecraft is fueled by the players creativity. both are good in their own way so dont criticize any of these games

  15. That actually made me think. Terraria retained the "indie" feelings (even tho i doubt u can count it as a real indie game by this point) while minecraft became very corporate and.. sad.

  16. This was an frustrating watch as a person who loves both of these games to death…. I feel you focus way too hard on aspects external to actually playing the games. The process of buying Minecraft is irrelevant since that is a drop in the ocean in terms of your engagement with Minecraft. Minecoins are easily ignorable. Also, since Mojang releases updates for all platforms at the same time, it is much harder for them to add a huge amount of content at a time. Fundamentally, Terraria and Minecraft really shouldn't be compared as they aim for different experiences for the player.

  17. When i saw how to get minecraft (and its price) i lost all my motivation to even try it. Like, why do i need some special launcher and more non-understandable stuff just to play? And when i saw terraria on steam, i decided to buy it when i can because it’s exactly how you said it, you just buy it for 10 bucks, and press play.
Terraria isn’t 2D minecraft, Terraria is Terraria.

  18. 2D is better than 3D you can say that with Sonic you could say the opposite with Mario even though the 2D games are also kind of good but the new Super Mario series is bad after we NDS apparently you could say Legend of Zelda is better on 3D which is very true

  19. If the primary factor for Terraria's 'perfect' game status is its active developer community, then titles like Dwarf Fortress and CDDA are truly worthy of claiming the throne. Both of these games deliver an exhilarating gameplay experience and leave an indelible impression. In these immersive worlds, players have the power to craft their unique stories and aspirations, and what sets them apart is the absence of a definitive conclusion. The beauty lies in continuously setting new objectives after accomplishing the previous ones; the possibilities are inexhaustible. You can rest assured of this! While I don't profess that DF and CDDA are without flaws, acknowledging their occasional bugs and multiplayer incompatibility, these nuances in no way diminish the sheer enjoyment they bring.

  20. Terraria is for people who want a long, progressive story, Minecraft, however, is for people who want a short, sweet gameplay experience. Both have their qualities and unqualities.

  21. you gave yourself the wrong impression with bedrock edition
its far more broken than java edition in beta 1.7

also they didnt add chairs or vertical slabs for "creativity" which is sstupid
thats also one of the reasons why i wont play minecraft survival without mods anymore unless i want to min/max my gear and break the game as much as physically possible

i still get all your points
but uh that thing about the updates, why cant an update just add simple things?
if mojang just made an update specifically for inventory management, visual quality, performance, ambience, or other little things like that which add a lot of value it would be great

  22. It’s funny cause terraria said they would have there last update 1.4 but the devs couldn’t stop making the game. Better which is very cool

  23. I did an essay for English class about why terraria is better than Minecraft and it was cool to see him talk about some of the same points I made

  24. As a minecraft player I can usure you that monjang would never staysfy us
    We wanted nether update
We got it but the second the update dropped we wanted cave update
We got cave update but now we want end update
