My two best guesses are that you thought you put a seed there, but you missed those spots or lightning hit the crops.
Edit: I understand there’s no lightning on ginger island you guys can stop replying and telling me! It was a guess. I haven’t played stardew in months while waiting for 1.6 on console! My bad

You probably accidently destroyed it with a tool or forgot to put a seed there. But there are no crows and no lightning on ginger island

I think it’s from the invasive plants that you have to keep cutting back. I’ve had them eat iridium sprinklers, keep my fruit trees from growing, eat my bee houses, and eat other plants in my garden. Even if I’m not concentrating on GI, I will make a point to get over there with my scythe for a few minutes at least every other day to keep them cut back.

Unless you counted your seeds, you missed a spot.

Fiber grass kills them I have experienced the same thing but the crops that were killed were mostly on the outskirts of the plantation never in the center. I lost 3 gem berries that way

It’s raining in your image. When it can rain, it can do a thunderstorm there. Lightning is your answer, it occasionally hits a crop when it strikes.
Put a couple lightning rods on your island farm. Should take care of that issue.
