Terraria: everything is a projectile

  1. other "projectile" that can be destroyed like the ones fired from imps, goblin sorcerers and dark casters are also NPCs, if you hover your cursor on them it will display the name of the "projectile"

  2. it's surprising how somewhat unnoticed everything being a projectile seems, but i guess no one really expects something with complex ai (minions and pets) to just be a projectile

  3. I assume the grand design sending the wire to the end of the world is because it only has one end to work with (the tile it's spawned on), so the other end just goes to the tile 0,0 as a default point

  4. Also, one interesting note for Master mode FTW (Legendary mode)

You know how in Expert mode attacks generally deal 2x damage and enemies have 2x health, and in Master mode this increases to 3x?

In Legendary mode, enemies have 4x health, but projectiles still only deal 3x damage.
Contact damage, on the other hand, increases to 5.33333333333…x (16/3 the Classic mode value, or 16/9 the Master mode value)
Therefore, Vile Spit, Water spheres, and Imp Fireballs, since they're technically NPCs, they deal this boosted Contact damage.

What's more: Legendary mode also often makes these indestructible during the boss fights

  5. Ok, I get that many things that aren't projectiles are projectiles and a couple things that are projectiles are just NPCs…
But then what the heck are weapons that are neither, like Swords? And, also, would swords like The Night's Edge and Terra Blade (minus the obvious projectile) be in the same category?

  6. Some of you are wondering how you can interact with stuff like the Money Trough if they are projectiles and non-interactive.
I'm about 90% sure that the code for interacting with the trough on click is handled outside of normal projectile code, though I could be wrong.

  7. Makes sense vile spit is technically an npc, considering that the projectiles from dark casters and imps also are. I mainly learned this when I was playing modded with Fargo's banner boost, and was confused that it counted the fireballs as it's own enemy.

  8. "Minions are basically just pets, but with damage values."
That checks out considering the class was directly inspired by damaging pet items in oldgen console versions of the game.

  9. Merchant NPCs were actually supposed to be projectiles as well, but the devs specifically made the goblin tinkerer an npc so that it was possible to physically harm him. Eventually, that led to the idea of making all merchants into npcs for the sake of consistency.
