My grandpa passed away 10 years ago and still is the person that influenced my life in the most beautiful and meaningful ways.
He had the most peculiar sense of humor, was the best teacher in the world (and also the strictest) and changed the life of everyone who ever knew him for the better.
When I reached perfection for the first time a couple of months ago I realized that what makes Stardew Valley so important to me is grandpa. The fact that he gave his grandchild an opportunity to continue the family legacy and start their life over giving them a better quality of life even after his death reminds me a lot of my own grandfather.
What differs the Player’s story from my own is that the legacy my grandpa left me was knowledge. He taught me so much – from Math to Philosophy – and is the one responsible for making me a critical thinker and a curious human being. I am who I am and where I’m at right now because of him and I’ll be eternally grateful for that.
This tattoo is the exact copy of the last time he taught me something. I was 14 and he wanted me to know Bhaskara’s equation – “because you shouldn’t memorize equations, you need to know how they work and how to get there by yourself” – and I remember thinking to myself that he was just being old and cranky but now I know he had his reasons.
I already wanted to turn that page full of equations into a tattoo but after reaching the summit I also wanted to add a fragment of this masterpiece of a game that reminds me so much of one of the people I love the most in the world ‘till this day.
I love you grandpa. This one is for you even though I know you would call me stupid for putting this ink into my skin for you.
Ps.: Before someone tells me I’m dying, I got this tattoo on Wednesday and took the picture just after removing the plastic, that’s why it’s kinda red (and it is hot af in Brazil right now lol)
Ps. 2: my apologies for the bad grammar. English is not my first language.
