I'm happy to keep it in an aquarium in my house, but I was really hoping I could put it in a fish pond and start putting it's expensive eggs in preserves jars.
… Not that I necessarily need more money at this point in the game, but man.

if you get a treasure chest during the fishing minigame, the chest has some chance containing the roe of the fish that you’re trying to catch.

I’ve never gotten roe for the legend, but I have gotten it by treasure chest for the crimson fish and the angler fish. I think there is a book you have to read to make roe start appearing in treasure chests.
You have to find and read this book so you have a chance to get the fish’s roe in treasure chests. You can’t put legendary fishes in ponds so this is the only way you can get it.
