Just one small tweak, from looking at the overall composition. Just a bit of darkening around the eyes to make it look like the wood split open for the eyes. Overall, I think the log/creak should have just a touch more contrast to keep it from being really flat looking.

Under actually looks maybe a bit better. More uncanny.
It looks too human now. Also looks like eyeliners
