The Bizarre World of Glitched Stardew Speedruns

An often overlooked section of Stardew Valley speedruns are the Glitched runs. While there’s a couple of reasons for this, there’s still gold to be found here! This video both serves as an entertaining look into these speedruns, as well as an intro to some of the information you’ll need to know to actually start speedrunning!

    i've watched a couple glitched runs and they're so fast it's so hard to tell what's even happening. knowing the actual code/science behind them makes the ones i've seen before make a LOT more sense! i can kind of understand why most people don't want to run these, it's very technical and feels like you're just "cheating" in the items (which i guess…you are?) but now i know there's a lot more to it than that! very interesting video, thank u sal for this gem<3

    For the mines speedrun, could possibly save even more time by adding the code for the mines being open, so you dont have to sleep for 5 days. Not sure if it would work, but something to look at if anyone plans on giving it a go.

    For missing you’d need to somehow put basement unlock, wine, and ancient fruit seeds and fertilizer into what would probably be an animal name text box? Along with the other missing items and use that to get the items then sleep enough to get the quality wine and ancient fruits

    I don't throw any shade towards people who run glitched runs, I just don't watch them. Mostly because when I watch people play, I want them to either be very skilled or doing something interesting. Glitches just aren't interesting to me and when I say skilled, I mean good at the game itself, not exploiting it.

    Correction: NDE you arent allowed to paste new line characters, you are allowed to copy/paste otherwise

    The # signs are to to increase the length of the name, because the game will(without wsc) only process 1 mail inject(eg the "}ccMovieTheater} ) per dialogue box, and # is also a non alphanumeric character so wont contribute to the name length(which if is too long will crash the game as windows file path too long)

    Also, wsc was fixed in 1.4, not 1.3, but 1.3 made it harder to saveskip

    Marriage glitches runs have used the same strat for basically all of them, and the code is linked in one of the yt description of one of the higher up runners(prim's harvey run iirc)

    And 100% backing up sal on please run NDE/glitches, its a fun little subcatagory that deserves more love

    im not a speed runner and i dont know anything about the glitches (or how regular stardew works even) but my thoughts for the run you brought up at the end are glitch in the dino mayo, caviar, and prismatic shard, then for the first quality one glitch in wine and a cask. the second is a little trickier
    I originally was arguing for either the fish or the fruit as pretty equally valid options, but I had a realization that makes the fruit a much better option but I'll say it at the end :3
    For the fish, you'd probably want an advanced fishing rod and two quality bobbers, or if its possible to change fishing level with glitches, either one quality bobber and a curiosity lure/dressed spinner or a replacing the quality with a dressed spinner. whether or not you can change your level with these glitches changes a LOT of how the run would go, like which fishing zone you should try and fish in and even maybe which professions you would choose (doesn't price affect quality? or is it the other way around?) no matter what, you can basically guarantee which ever fish you catch is gold quality, and it's just a matter of how the best way to increase your bite rate. You could also cheat in food to get your fishing level higher even without cheating the level itself, but if you do the 2 quality bobber method you HAVE to aim for the lowest quality possible to get it so a fishing level boost isn't really recommended.
    For the fruit, I think it's theoretically easier but might be much slower and pretty rng heavy, with deluxe fertilizer, sprinklers, and the fruit seeds. Again, this is also dependent on level. Unlike the fishing method, I think getting a farming buff is a good idea no matter what. There are way less variables here, hence why i think it's probably easier, but I think the fish would be a better bet….
    except i forgot about actually getting TO the witches swamp. I think it might be possible by triggering the cutscene with the wizard, but even with that ability i think the travel time would probably make the fishing method a little longer, even if it would be more consistent.
    Edit: I just remembered that casks only work if you actually HAVE a cellar so maybe you have to do both of these things, unless you can force house upgrades with glitches too. I would assume so because you can do the marrige run but idk

    Now, my question is why your mines run isn't on the leaderboard. It beats the current posted record from a couple of months ago (on 1.6x so they're using this strategy)? Did something not meet the rules, is it still being verified, or is there another reason?

    I would be interested in you covering hte next step down of glitches, the ones without pasting. I am curious, do those alloy item codes in your name as long as they can be legitimately typed?
