I build an automatic chicken legs dispenser in basically every minecraft world at the start of the game. And then I never get rid of it. That means I always have food and feathers when I die and wake up at spawn again.

Eggs you can sell for emeralds to farmers, not a ton but makes moneys. Automatic chicken cooking farms exist and are decently popular, you can make them really early and are set for food

There is better food then cooked chicken… The only thing you would need them for is eggs and feathers. But since you can get arrows, cakes, and pumpkin pies from villagers, the only need for them would be for book and quills and brushes (or to use eggs as projectiles if you don’t want/can use snowballs) but yeah, theres no other point really…
Oh and also for firework stars
(You could sell feathers to fletchers for emeralds, but that’s not worth it, just use sticks)

I prioritise farming cows in the early game, because you need leather, for books, for bookcases, for enchanting. Seeing as you have to do this anyway I don’t see much point in a chicken farm in the beginning.
I currently have a small egg farm just for farming wither roses.
