I like the Steve villain concept I have a couple theories that was one of them. But my second theory is that the game and the movie itself have always revolved around bugs and bug fixes and that’s what’s going on in the movie The world is bugged and they’re trying to fix it. The funny thing about the bug paradox is it also applies to Steve and Herobrine but that’s just my guess and it’s uneducated
