Huge pvz fan here, I believe the joke is just about how awfully the pvz franchise has been run, we haven’t gotten a game for 5 years and the the sequel which is releasing soon, being plants vs zombies 3, didn’t even have the ability to choose plants until last month, despite the fact that the game had been in development for 3 years, make that 5 if you count earlier builds.
The meme also could be referencing the fact that talks were in place between EA and warnerbros about a pvz movie but whatever reason it fell through.
