I'd be interested in seeing if/how you could use minecart "train station" logic to traverse to/through different portals based on some kind of input (maybe something like your iBuy elevator/floor selector). If it could go to different y-values that would be awesome, but even just having ways to link to the other hermits' portals from spawn might be fun (and helpful if a hermit respawns without any gear!).

Okay I think I may know what is happening here or at least can point you in the right direction. About a year ago when 1.20 came out I put soul sand all along the bottom of my river in my minecraft city because it made boats bounce and jiggle. As a result of that it brought the old flying squid glitch to my city you have dolphins playing with rails in soul sand water and whatever they play with gets driven to the surface (as demonstrated in the video) I am thinking that at least part of the dolphin ai was copied over from the squid but since it is impossible to keep dolphins alive except in airated water mojang managed to cetch the dolphins themselves flying and fixed it, but forgot to fix it for any items they are holding, because as urban legand would have it squids don't have hands.
This implies to me that you can probobly make fish and guardians do the flying squid glitch if you absuse their ai in a certain way.
Come to think of it I know you can lead fences to each other in bedrock. What if we ported that over to java and then added the ability to lead mobs, boats, and minecrats to each other, plus some code that keeps mincarts close togeather that would be awsome and work fairly well within the mechanics already laid out.

You could use that bug as a farm indicator for full storage.. If you had the system drop an item when it over fills.. 💚

One thing that I associate with cyperpunk themes is multi-level traversal. Every rooftop has access, from the street you can barely see the sky, and there are rickety, makeshift crossings at upper levels.

Also, im a big Stray fan. Great cyperpunk example (but maybe more dystopian/run-down than your intended vibe)
