Flowerpots, armor stands, and paintings work well. Replace a block in the floorboards with a honey block and use upside down stairs around it to trap a villager (or any mob) in place. Put a fence on the second floor and attach a chicken to it with a lead. Then push the chicken down the stairwell until it falls and is hanging from the ceiling.

Try making the space feel more lived in. Add a kitchen, maybe a fireplace or TV, depends if you have anything you think will fit what you have in mind for your world in general. I personally like to decorate a house based on a character I come up with
