Why Stardew Valley is still winning

this 8-year-old game is still one of the most successful Farm Sim SL cozy games there is why stardy Valley is so much more than a Farm Sim from the outside it seems incredibly simple you move to a new town clean up your farm plant some seeds and profit but in reality there’s way more to do and I’m not just talking about fishing or Romancing the villagers which you know are fun too concerned AP took his time to make this love letter to the farm Sims way more in depth than previous games in the genre while it still has the tediousness of life on a farm it also has Secrets puzzles Amazing Stories quest lines exploration and most importantly in the S way of life a variety of gameplay you aren’t just perpetually planting watering and harvesting crops that is part of it it’s a Farm Sim after all but that’s not the most important aspect or even the main mechanic of the game however it does help that stardo Valley does mechanics Justice the act of planting and harvesting are done so well that it doesn’t feel like a chore to fill up an entire farm full of crops maybe the watering will always feel chore likee but once you upgrade your can this improves as well the tree trapping will forever have the best sound effect ever created for a video game the strategy of letting grass grow so you can have feed for your animals finding random helpful packages on your Beach Farm unlocking rundown buildings that you find when you first arrive to your farm the mechanics are just so well fleshed out and satisfying to perform which sounds like it should just be a standard for every game ever but it’s incredibly important and something that does set a game apart from many others as does the hidden secrets or special quests something to change up the normal day of play like the key quests or even the secret notes that you find around the world as you play they add a whole new layer to a game that’s already good the secrets that you find by exploring the world are the best more of these in literally every game please it’s a nice break that’s still fantastic gameplay which keeps you interested invested and curious and unlocks parts of the game that you haven’t experienced after dozens of hours of playing it brings a whole new life to your playthrough finding that secret note randomly is just a breath of fresh air you take a break from your Daily Grind to go do something fun like we all should do in life stardo Valley is incredibly easy to get into there isn’t a lot of risk especially at the beginning of your adventure the mechanics while amazing are simple and stressfree well maybe except for running home before 2: a.m. so you don’t pass out once that clock hits that time it’s a little bit stressful but Watering your crops or chopping down trees it’s all stuff you do in your own time there’s no monster running after you no time-based strategic decision that has to be made the game is easy to get started there’s no consequence for taking your time even though it may seem a bit overwhelming at times there is a lot to do in stardo and as a result new players might feel like they’re completely lost at first but the game does offer you quests that act as many tutorials to get you going once you make a decision on what you want to do with your playthrough or even with whatever day you’re currently on everything just kind of falls into place it’s the best the overwhelming number of options of activities seems like an issue at first but it becomes a benefit after you quickly get used to how the game works there’s no wrong thing to do if you want to fish for a whole day there are benefits to that if you only want to explore the mine there are benefits to that too the game doesn’t hold your hand doesn’t give you a story locked linear path it is all truly up to you stardy Valley wasn’t released in its final according to concerned ape he’s had a lot of ideas for what he wanted the game to be but released what he had and then started working on additional features that he foresaw from the beginning but working as a single developer in a game things like this took time which is one of the reasons that we’re still getting updates 8 years after the game released he had so many ideas for stardo and just didn’t have enough time to implement them all before he released the game but he gave us a completed game that was still incredibly enjoyable and then Contin improving on it with old and new ideas to give us more of a reason to keep playing these updates have been crucial to st’s continued success they aren’t the frequent monthly updates that we’re used to with live service games that we have today there are large gaps between new content but it was still new content a game that we paid $15 for8 years ago still getting quality improvements today no one else is doing anything like that both update wise and gameplay wise with that being said it’s always surprised when a new update comes out and I don’t expect there to be any more updates in the future for stardy Valley especially because concerned ape is hopefully working on his haunted chocolate here game but with someone like concerned ape an update next week could just happen over the years we’ve gotten a ton of new events holidays quests mechanics Farms a whole new area to visit the 1.5 update had so much stuff in it it seemingly doubled the amount of gameplay available to us these updates aren’t just small things like a new crop or s Le new farm when we get updates for stardew we get updates Mr Baron spoils us it’s unclear if the latest 1.6 patch is going to be the final update but it is refreshing to not expect anything from an improvement schedule for a game each New Edition has been a welcome surprise that makes me excited to jump back into playing all of the new stuff has given me hours upon hours of fresh gameplay instead of a play session or two which is what we tend to be used to in the games are getting updates in now world that we live in on top of official updates from the dev we also have a plethora of free mods available to us from the very kind and hardworking members of the community and concerned ape is actually a huge supporter of them these mods allow the game to continue to live on even if the update stop someone is always working on something as their own Love Letter to this game that we’ve invested so much time into and it’s crazy that the dev is so supportive of all of it the mods vary from things like aesthetic art changes quality of life options like a lawnmower or huge content editions like the expanded mod which adds extra areas to the map new dialog new characters a whole new story and it’s so well done the official stardy 1.6 update was supposed to mainly help modders more easily add their extras into the game but it ended up just being so much more than that we don’t see many devs supporting third parties having a say in their game which makes sense to a point large familyfriendly companies like Nintendo need to control the perception of their brand especially because they tend to appeal to a younger age demographic but it is nice to see that there are some people out there who appreciate the community’s hard work and does everything in their power to make life easier for us well I mean not I haven’t done any cool stuff for them for the community modding is a huge reason stard has stayed alive all these years especially between updates if you’re getting a little bored of the game just go find something that will reinvigorate your playthrough whether that’s the cute little aesthetic mod or just a whole new expansion of the game and it’s all free I really hope people never stop sharing their passion because this is just incredibly enjoyable even if you don’t feel like going through the process of downloading mods there’s always a reason to refresh your gameplay even by just starting a new save file there are a boatload of different Farm options to pick from when creating your new adventure to help change up your days and stop them from being mundane going to the same Farm every single stard of day that can get old pretty quick one of my favorite new Farms is the beach Farm it sucks that it has a smaller Farm area but you get mystery packages on your Shores every now and then with really helpful items I look forward to running around and seeing my surprise for the day or maybe you just want to change of scenery whenever you walk out the front door you want to see more trees I don’t know there’s always a reason and starting a new safe file when a new update comes out is sometimes beneficial like with the 1.6 update you can still experience everything new with an existing save file but if you start a new one then you can experience all the new story editions and mechanics in context which just adds so much to a playthrough aside from that you can change up your Mainline Quest too which is a huge reason to do multiple playthroughs the community center can either be a huge resource search or just a money grind with a jojamart option both give a unique take on the same game even the resource grind can be randomized a bit more if you’re sick of filling out the same bundles with every save file variety is the key here and that see seems to be the reoccurring factor in why stardy is always winning variety besides the fact that this game play is smooth the multitude of things that you can do is most important it makes playing and replaying worth your time keeps it fresh it’s always fun and it’s like the one game that multiplayer is super
