My farm keeps burning all the chicks as soon as one becomes an adult

As soon as one chicken grows up it’s supposed to become big enough to be burnt by the lava so it dies cooks and is dispensed in the chest. This works but when it occurs all the other chicks that aren’t grown yet die. Please help!!
