I’m Making a Terraria Mod

a few days ago the Terraria Rog likee mod released made by Aqua SG it is an extremely impressive proof of concept and reminded me of a project I considered undertaking a few months ago which was a Rog likee terraria Mod Aqua sg’s mod is heavily influenced by risk of rain which wasn’t quite what I had in mind originally their mod has the player going through Dungeons and collecting new items that provide Buffs which synergize and accumulate to have powerful effects but I didn’t find the mod to be particularly enjoyable personally it tries very hard to force a risk rain style gameplay onto Terraria to the point that there are no accessories no armor no different weapons neither of the weapons are actually from Terraria no classes there’s really almost nothing Terraria like in the mod it’s a recreation of risk of rain within Terraria more than a Terraria Rogue like and I don’t think that style Maps very well on a Terraria I talked with aqua SG briefly and they don’t have any plans to continue developing the mod or Implement any drastic changes due to their personal life getting busy so instead I do using the framework that they created that’s on GitHub I’d like to develop a Terraria Rogue likee mod that’s in more of a dead cells Direction rather than risk of rain let me explain in dead cells you spawn in and make your way through 2D worlds filled with enemies that drop coins and rarely equipment weapons skills and pendants there are a huge variety of weapons and equipments with different effects and they all fit into one of three classes brutality tactics and survival you can find upgrade Scrolls which boosts the damage of one of those three classes you can use the coins you’ve gathered from killing enemies at Shops and at a hub level Between Worlds reforging your weapons or purchasing new ones that fits perfectly into Terraria it already has a huge variety of weapons and accessories many of which are overshadowed by better options in the base game and the rogu likee system of random drops would let them shine it’s got a pre-existing class damage system enemies dropping coins NPCs to interact with to buy items and even to reforge weapons and a system like that to me is the ideal Terraria Rog likee there’s just one key problem I’m not a coder despite what you might think I know next to nothing about programming that’s where you come in I’ve been recruiting people to work on this project and would like all the help I can get I primarily need competent Builders and moders there are levels that need to be created in game and code that needs to be implemented if you’re interested in joining the project and have those skills shoot me a DM on Discord at sorb Cafe I’m not asking people to work for nothing I have some money set aside to compensate people but not an excessive amount I’m still in the planning and organizing stages right now but I would like to see this project through to fruition so if you have expertise in this area and would like to help you are more than welcome to join and I’ll reiterate if you’re a talented Builder I could also use help with level creation this project will be distinct from Aqua SGS to Rogue likee mod while it is using it as a framework particularly for level generation the design direction will be very different and the current working title is tercels

  1. I would love parkour to access bonus loot

    and maybe give certain mobility accessories but then to make it work well as to not trivialize level design make it so certain parts have it disabled same for boss fights

    edit: I love this idea of having it closer to dead cells its what I was expecting from the other mod

  2. The Terraria roguelike mod seems like something I'd pick up, do one playthrough of, and never touch again to be honest. 'Specially considering its dev has no plans of continuing development on it.

  4. Please don’t make a carbon copy of dead cells tho. I would love to see an item system similar to this mod but with items from other games aswell. Like tboi transformations where you find these items and you get this pair of wings or low health but 9 lives etc. Ik you mentioned wanting to move more towards terraria weapons/equipment which is a good thing but ig I think an overall ultimate roguelike would really be amazing and have a lot of longevity. The scroll system could be really hard to balance say you tie melee to hp range ms etc or just flat Dmg increases per class?

  6. I personally agree with most of your ideas. Except I personally think you should instead of trying to make it too similar to dead cells. Grab some elements from a few roguelikes and turn it into something truly unique.

  7. As much as I would love to help in this project I’m neither a skilled coder nor a skilled terraria builder (although I’m learning both… kinda)
