How to unlock Stardew Valley’s HARDEST Achievement… Fector’s Challenge Journey of the Prairie King

[Music] In Stardew Valley there is an achievement that is so hard, Time consuming and even unfair that ConcernedApe, the creator of the game, Openly says that he "has some regrets with the difficulty of the achievement". With the release of 1.5, we can say that things have changed for the better, With twice as many people having the achievement nowadays. But the minigame still is very challenging, And this video’s goal is help you get the hardest achievement in the game. First off let’s get the basics out of the way. To get the achievement you have to beat a mini game inside Stardew Valley, Called Journey of the Prairie King, and you can play it on Gus’s saloon. The catch is that you get the achievement, You have to beat the game’s 10 levels and three bosses without being hit once. But to most, the biggest source of frustration when it comes to getting the achievement, Is that the game can corner you sometimes, with no way of escaping, No matter how well you play, considering how much RNG plays a factor in the game, It can really get frustrating to keep dying, Because you need to rely on enemies to drop power ups or coins. With all that being said there is a pretty reliable method of progressing through the game. When you beat a level the game "saves" your progress and allows you to continue playing from that level, If you stop and then come back. So, basically you can beat one level at a time, without dying of course, And when you get to the next level, you quit the game and then go to sleep to save your progress. To continue playing on the next in-game day. The problem with that strategy is that you need to wait until 12 pm, That is, when the saloon opens, to continue playing the game. There are two ways around that, that I can think of: You can either get the key to the town with Mr. Qi, Which is a late game item you get on the island, Or you can just cheat. But you can just wait a little over four minutes until the saloon opens before each try. Whatever you think is best. When it comes to the game itself, Once every two rounds a vendor will show up and offer you three types of upgrades: The boots, that make you run faster, the gun that allows you to shoot faster, And the bullets that increase the damage of your weapon. Personally, I think that the order: gun – bullets – boots is the best. Just keep in mind that you should always try to buy something from the merchant, When she shows up, since the number of encounters with her is always the same, And you can’t buy more than one item at a time, meaning that if you don’t buy anything on any given encounter, You’ll end up having one less upgrade than you could have. And because of that, it’s very important that you always try to collect every coin the enemies drop. Worst case scenario, if you die trying to get a coin you can just reset the day. But not having the money to buy an upgrade and having to rely even more on RNG is not ideal. Like I said, the game has 10 stages and three bosses, Being divided into three worlds, as you can see on the screen now. The bosses aren’t hard, you just need to be patient and that includes Fector, the last boss. If you always stay above him only dodging his shots, while moving as little as you can, You won’t have a lot of trouble beating him. Again, the game often corners you both literally and figuratively. Sometimes, depending on the enemy’s spawns and the lack of power-ups, You might not really have a way out. That’s why saving between levels is so important. I ended up beating the game in a little less than one hour and a half to get the achievement, Including the time that it took me to go from my house to the saloon, And some extra stuff that I did. Going a little deeper, let’s talk about the general strategy for each world, Starting with the first one. This is the only one that has four levels and a boss, Being that the rest of them have three stages and a boss. It’s the easiest, so you can try to beat more than one level per session, if you’re comfortable. In it, you’ll find orcs, ogres and spike balls. Neither of them are either fast or too tanky. Just avoid being around the enemy spawns in the middle of the sides of the screen when you can. There isn’t really a lot to the first world, since it’s the easiest. As long as you get every coin, you’re good. After the fourth level, you’re going to face off against a cowboy. It’s pretty easy as long as you’re patient. Just try to shoot him when he’s going back and forth or when he stops out of cover. Now, in world two things start getting a little harder. Here you’ll find mushrooms and butterflies. Naturally, they’re harder than the first world enemies. The butterflies can spawn anywhere on the edges of the screen, so you should avoid standing too close to the level’s walls. The mushrooms are your biggest problem here. They’re fast and if you haven’t upgraded the damage of your weapon, You need to shoot them twice to kill them. After three levels, you face off against a cowboy. And it’s pretty much the same thing as first time around. World three is when things really change. Now you’ll have to deal with mummies and imps. The mummies are tanky and generally spawn in groups, although they are pretty slow. Imps are faster and can go through walls. They’ll spawn on any of the sides of the map, just like the butterflies. You really can’t be too stingy with your powerups in this part of the game. I highly recommend that you save after every stage in this part of the game. After you get through the three levels in this world, you’ll face off against Fector, the final boss. Starting the fight with a power-up in your pocket is ideal, but as you can see, On the attempt that I defeated him, it’s possible to do it without one. As I said, if you stand directly above him and only move a little to dodge his shots, you’ll beat him soon enough. Overall I’d say that Fector’s challenge went from being an unfair achievement, to a grindy one. With this guide, I think it’s only a matter of time until you get the achievements. If I helped you, I would be very happy if you consider liking my video and subscribing to my channel. Any questions and feedback are appreciated, and keep in mind that I read every comment in my videos. Bye-bye! [Music]

  1. I would have never been able to get this achievement without the saving thing. It took me days to finish this. Thanks for the video! I really like it 🙂

  2. On the level 1 boss, The TNT looking assist transported me to be placed on his side – I just had a free shot at him while he shot in the wrong direction with no cover. But I was NOT ready at all for the next level of mushrooms and butterflies because I hadn’t purchased the ammo. Agggh.

  3. Nice guide! Thanks for the tip about Fector, that's helpful. I've beaten Prairie King 4-5 times in my current playthrough, but not without dying yet. Working on that now. 😀
I find that playing it with a gamepad is a tad bit easier than keyboard and mouse, for anyone struggling.

  4. Took me a whole day to obtain the achivement. It's very grindy and time consuming, but doable without mods. Didn't know there's now a save mechanic. I feel as if my effort was in vain 🙁

  5. It kinda makes me sick this is almost impossible to get without cheating lol I don't want the achievement unless I can do what it says, not manipulate the way it plays to get it. I feel so wrong doing the save trick.

  6. I love concerned ape I just think I should be able to 100% the farm game only doing farm game things and not having to grind an annoying mini game
