I've been playing modpacks on and off for the last few years, almost exclusively of the locked room type (skyblocks, stoneblocks, various trapped-in-a-situation packs).

I was compelled to play some Stoneblock 2 again and realized there's some big gaps in the questing that lead me to spend too much time on certain areas, then run around on reddit, youtube, and the fandom wiki figuring out how to bridge those gaps. And I understand it's because most people have already played these mods a million times and don't like their hands held – totally fine. But I like following questbooks and I like having my handheld. I'm looking for packs that guide you through from start to finish, rather than like, Quest: Build Sewage Treatment Block without any quests related to building energy components that can support it.

Basically, I'm a big fan of modpacks with qualifiers like Warrior Chef's

Examples of modpacks in that vein:

  • Create on a Potato PC
  • Skyfactory 4 (my first modpack!)
  • Volcanoblock

Modpacks that are not:

  • SevTech – sorry, just feels like a team game, not a solo adventure
  • GregTech
  • Project Ozone
  • Enigmatica 2
  • Create: Above and Beyond – absolutely not a noob game, not sure why it's commonly rec'd for beginners
