Something I like to do is make wooden floors of slabs with stair blocks against the walls. A simple way to add a little dimension to the room. Using wooden fences or stone walls as torch/lantern holders on the wall is a good way to keep the room lighted in a way that feels natural. You could also use wooden logs to create beams on/in the ceiling which you can hang lanterns from.
