you might be familiar with this symbol in starter Valley it appears in quite a few locations this is a symbol for Yoba a deity that is worshiped in stardo Valley there is a book in the Museum’s Library titled highlights from the book of Yoba that we can read it States before time there was only the endless Golden Light the light called out to itself Yoba y Yoba wanted more Yoba swirled the golden light into a Vortex Yoba swirled and swirled until a hole formed in the eye of the Vortex from this hole sprung a seed Yoba smoothed the Golden Light Yoba smoothed and smoothed and the light became soil into this soil Yoba planted the seed the seed sprouted and behold a Vine sprung Skyward twisting and probing casting a Rising Shadow onto the golden void after 11 days the vine bore fruit Yoba with knowing wisdom peeled the tough skin off the fruit and saw that the world was inside and so that is how the world came to be based on this reading it feels as though Yoba is the deity for mother nature or something along those lines prioritizing the environment life itself and the creatures around us with the game focused on farming I can believe it but let’s take a look at that symbol again it’s actually based off of the Anglo-Saxon ear Rune there is an Old English Rune poem that’s dated to the 8th or 9th century which has 29 Anglo-Saxon runs in the poem The Ear Rune section says ear is horrible to every night when the corpse quickly begins to cool and is laid in the bosom of the Dark Earth Prosperity declines happiness passes away and Covenants are broken Jacob Grim an author linguist and folklorist interpreted this poem as death personified and connects this with the death bring God of War Aries back to stard of Valley can we connect Yoba to death and War like GM suggested we can see that on the adventurers bundle the symbol is a sword and shield Yoba being on the shield in Abigail’s 14 heart event there is a monster’s grave in the Backwoods with the Yoba symbol on it the gravestone decoration also features it the symbol is also found on a plaque in Harvey’s Clinic though this doesn’t necessarily represent death it could represent healing Faith Etc when we investigate the plaque in his Clinic it says the sign of the vessel it’s here to comfort those who believe in Yoba okay so all although Yoba symbol is associated a lot with death I think based on the reading from the museum book and the description from Harvey’s clinics plaque I think Yoba might be a deity that represents life and the cycle that comes with it birth growth Decay and death all in one in the arcade game Journey of the prairie king the tombstone power up has that Yoba symbol upside down and when you use it you become an invulnerable zombie a creature that is both dead and alive interesting there is also a ring of Yoba that can be crafted that will occasionally Shield the wearer from damage when worn the protection of life is an important attribute of Yoba let’s see what the people of pelicant town think of Yoba in Pier’s shop there’s a shrine of Yoba where we can see Kent Jodie Evelyn and George attending a Sunday service I’ve always found it really weird that a place of worship would be located in someone house through their shop Caroline says to us however it was the previous owners who built that altar room we aren’t religious but we let the other towns folk use it if they want there are a few two other characters that worship Yoba but we never see them at the shrine Emily for example believes in Yoba and even carries around a symbol of Yoba which can be seen if you take her out to a movie that she dislikes she’ll State Yoba please protect me from the dark energy of this movie kobis will tell you on Saturdays on Fridays I stay silent as a sign of Devotion to Yoba and true to his word if you speak to him on a Friday he will be silent we even know that Alex’s mother claraa left a letter saying mama if you’re reading this it means I’ve passed on I’m so sorry you had to go through this know that I love you both don’t be too upset I’m with Yoba now my final request take care of Alex he needs a family something stable he’s a good kid love claraa this letter can be found in George and Evelyn’s bedroom if you unlock Pam’s nine heart event and you purchase the community upgrade from Robin you can find her praying to a Yoba statue she states that she loves the new house but she hasn’t been able to cut back on drinking so she ordered under the statue we can respond with I’m glad you’re feeling hopeful or sorry Pam but Yoba isn’t real which will give us negative 1,000 friendship points and prompt Pam to respond with what in the void is wrong with you it feels as though Yoba is a deity that provides great comfort for those in Pelican town the symbol is plastered pretty much anywhere that could give someone a little bit of Hope and a reminder that life is precious is it possible that there could be a darker side to Yoba if crossed or betrayed in year one when the green rain happens for the first time Pam will state it’s a sign from the almighty we’re doomed and every year afterward she will say I think these Reigns are a show of force a warning you could say it’s from nature from Yoba whatever you like but that’s what I think what I mean is we can’t get too cocky or else instead of a green rain maybe we’ll have a blood red rain see what I mean during the green rain in the first year the town’s people are in a panic and they gather in the saloon the rain causes all TV channels to show Green static the Jukebox in the saloon doesn’t work and the telephone cannot be used either after we’ve experienced the green rain we can see that although this was a scary and unknown phenomenon nothing bad actually happens the foliage and Greenery expands and there’s new bushes all around trees grow faster and there’s an abundance of moss everywhere there’s even more seeds to be found if this phenomenon was caused by Yoba it seems like it’s a way to spread life and give a little back to Mother Earth besides Carolina who explicitly States we aren’t religious we also have Shane Shane has two very distinct pieces of dialogue concerning Yoba during his six events Shane is laying face down at the edge of the cliffs surrounded by beer cans he feels miserable and he asks us why he shouldn’t just roll off the cliff we can choose to say one of four dialogues because there’s so much to live for jazz needs you you’re like a father to her it would be a sin the decision is your own just know that I’m here for you if we say it would be a sin he responds with Yoba don’t you know I’m an atheist GH and he says he needs to go to the hospital after marrying Shane he can also randomly say to us the name Shane means gift from Yoba what a joke Shane is really the only character that directly states that he does not believe in Yoba whereas Caroline just States we’re not religious when talking about the altar in Pier’s shop Caroline’s statement feels as though maybe they believe in Yoba but they don’t go to the Sunday service or anything like that it seems pretty clear that the majority of the people in Pelican Town look to Yoba for Hope and guidance or they just passively believe in Yoba and don’t pay too much mind to worship interestingly enough we can see the possible worship of Yoba in another race besides the humans of pelicant town and kobis a shadow person on Ginger Island there is a plaque above the forge that is Dwarven there is some imagery that shows the symbol of Yoba at the top and a possible depiction of that story of Yoba that we read in the museum I’m interpreting this plaque as Yoba forming in the stars and cre creating the planet and the moons then throwing life like trees and seeds onto the surface I find it very interesting that there is a sign that the belief in Yoba is in the Dwarven culture but when we speak to the dwarf in the mindes and even max out our friendship with them there is never any mention of Yoba we know that kobis talks about Yoba and his belief in him so there’s no way that worshiping Yoba is only for humans now there was a 1,000-year war between the dwarves and the shadow people and we know that there’s an abundance of shadow people still left because we come across them constantly in the mindes and we see kobis of course but the dwarves have all disappeared except for one could it be that the ancient dwarves that died in the war did believe in Yoba but the dwarf we know never had this belief passed down to them is it possible that the Dwarven religion also disappeared we’re left with nothing but relics and artifacts that belong to the dwarves for our answer now let’s theorize a bit we can see that the altar in Pier’s shop is completely gold and we know that in the story from the museum we know that light is obviously very important with Yoba and one could say that Yoba is light itself but what of that Darkness the absence of light the void Yoba swirled the golden light into a Vortex Yoba swirled and swirled until a hole formed in the eye of the vortex have a look at the top of the obelisks that we can use to warp us to specific locations the power of warping and teleporting us is seen with the return scepter a non-consumable gold and purple warp totem the golden handle Quivers with raw potential hold this scepter to the sky and return home at will concerned ape originally intended the altar of Yoba to charge a wand that would allow unlimited telep portion back to the farm this wand was later implemented as the return scepter let’s go back to that void stuff we see that a lot of void things are swirly and purple we can see this with the new decorative piece void swirls items like the void Essence which is quivering with dark energy and the void salmon which is Twisted by void energy there are also other void things that are represented with black and red like the void chicken void egg void ghost pendant and all of the Void Spirits the shadow people so we can see some theming with things associated with the void and things associated with Yoba purple black and red for the void and gold yellow and white for Yoba remember how Pam said what in the void is wrong with you this is how we would usually say what in the hell is wrong with you is the void a sort of hell I thought that at first but kovis gives us a lot of clarity he is a devoted believer of Yoba and even sells a symbol of the vessel if the void was a hell or some place of Eternal torture why would someone from the void like kobus still be devoted to Yoba it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me kobis may stay on rainy nights it’s said that my people came here long ago when a great catastrophe allowed Spirits from the void to cross into the physical plane so something happened to pull him him and the rest of the shadow people into our realm and specifically in Pelican Town my theory is that the void is just nothingness it’s a plane or realm that existed before Yoba and something in Yoba decided you know what let’s get out of here and spread life and light a separation a split a breakup between the void and the light as I’ll call it happened this wasn’t some malicious or hostile or destructive thing that happened it was Yoba breaking away and choosing its own path in the obelisks we see those swirls of purple like a mixing bowl of evenly distributed void and light all mixed together in harmony I think the combination of purple or black with yellow or gold can be seen quite a few times in start of Valley and can represent a beautiful Harmony of powers that grants you immense strength or a great ability the return scepter the idium band which is literally made of aridium bars solar Essence void Essence the wedding ring which is iridium bars and a prismatic Shard and is an old zuu City tradition and well wouldn’t you know it the statue of the dwarf King requires 20 iridium bars huh interesting when I started thinking of the Void as less of a hell and more of a peaceful nothingness soup where the void Spirits resided I got a better picture of what happened at the beginning of time when Yoba created the world with that said I hope you all enjoyed this video and thank you so much for watching I stream pixel art and stter Valley on Twitch so if you’d like to check that out Link in description and if you’ve got a 1. You didn't mention Yoba being depicted in an early CA comics. There we can see that he's a knid of sun, in fact the same we see on Emily and Haley's house.

  2. This makes the shadow people make more sense, at least for me. Being pulled from their peaceful nothingness into the chaotic everything of the material realm, fled down into the caves' depths and being hostile against anyone disturbing what little peace they have. Yoba bless.

  3. It makes sense that Yoba would be some form of deity representing the cycle of birth and death. Things die and return to the soil. To vitalise the soil for growth to happen. Like making a compost. The flipped over symbol in the Saloon game could be seen as interpretation of an "unholy" symbol as it turns the character in a non natural zombie state. Probably seen as sin against Yobas teaching. What is dead should stay dead and so on. Like in recent years a flipped over cross has been more used by satanism. similar idea.

As for Krobus and the Void. Depending on how things are read and interpreted Demons at times used to be fallen angels and so on. The ones that rebelled and got kicked out. Or picked to serve in hell. Maybe they are just serving a different aspect of Yoba. Less the life giving and more of the life ending aspect. That is why the shadow peoples traditions could differ. The Void could simply count as aspect of Yoba. Not evil. Just the cycle of death and rebirth. With humans interpreting things differently or maybe even wrong. Like if we compare it to the real world its not as uncommon for religious texts to get changed or interpreted differently for some form of gains. And there is a war the Republic is in at the moment.

  4. The green rain could be a sort of cleansing Yoba does. Maybe thanks to the pollution of joja factories and the like to strengthen the plant life. Like moss is known to be rather tough. Can survive temperature changes. And is known to absorb toxins and cleanse the air. But maybe in the book of yoba there had been some "punishment" that involved that green rain and plants overgrowing some "evil" place or such. Or seen as "Yoba prepares to clean up".

Also interesting with the dwarf as its kinda implied they come from space. Did they already pray to Yoba or just pick it up after they landed on earth. Or maybe thats why they came to earth. They saw a fertile planet taken care of by a god. So decided to settle. And maybe while they prayed they may have gained Yobas wrath. Maybe their technology they had was polluting the place or they were seen as too dangerous. Causing ruin and their war with the shadow people.

  5. Remembering your idea that Caroline comes from somewhere else. Maybe in her home they do not believe in Yoba. Maybe some other being. She says she is not religious but maybe thats because she cant safely express her religion in town. Seeing as both countries are at war.
