It's worth noting that you can very easily get into the temple and acquire solar tablets before any boss (though it only becomes useful after defeating the wall of flesh). You just need to place three platforms on the outside of the temple door, then hammer them into stair form, then you can pass through the door by holding down while walking through the platforms. This will be very risky because the enemies inside are very powerful and can kill you in a few hits, but if you're careful you can loot the chests and/or kill the enemies to obtain solar tablets and solar tablet fragments. After defeating the wall of flesh you can then summon the solar eclipse whenever you want.
The Death Sickle is only obtainable after defeating all 3 mech bosses as the reaper won't spawn beforehand. If you do it early on though you can still get money, broken bat wings from vampires (allowing you to make good wings in early hardmode), the moon stone, and the neptune's shell, which are useful early on and can be combined to make an even better accessory after defeating golem.
Even if you do the event early on though, you should still redo it after defeating plantera to obtain better weapons. For most classes this isn't obligatory but for melee it's very important because you can obtain the broken hero sword from mothrons, allowing you to craft the terra blade which is one of the best melee weapons before the celestial pillars.
