It may not be obvious, but the moon makes decision deterministic in this game. I find it interesting that the devs tie certain decisions in the game to the phase of the moon. I guess there IS a good reason to farm those fishing quests for a sextant.

One you missed was is that death weed can only be harvested during a full moon.
