When you wanna use a dropper + pressure plate in your build but being able to use it only 9 stacks of 64 + whatever amount of hoppers in a hoppper chain before manually refilling it isn’t enough for you. But you also don’t want there to be floating items behind a wall somewhere when it fills up.
