Minecraft Add-Ons: Does Bedrock Now Have Mods?

So something has just happened that I think could be massive for the future of Minecraft the Minecraft Marketplace for the Bedrock edition of the game now has add-ons and the way I look at this is like it’s mods for Bedrock Edition now on this channel I’m mostly known for

Covering the updates through the Java snapshots and tomorrow is Wednesday that means there’s most likely going to be a snapshot and unfortunately I’m not going to be able to cover it of got some other things going on and I’m actually really pressed for time as I make this video so

It’s going to be very impromptu I’m not going to have a deep dive into what’s currently available but I just want to introduce you to what’s happening on the Bedrock Marketplace so heading back over to that article it says that this is a gamechanging Bedrock feature and that

You can change the game your way and the word mod is not even mentioned in this article once they’re always referred to as add-ons in the Java edition of the game modding is done by the Minecraft Community it’s not properly Under the Umbrella of moyang it’s people working

On their own to create a modding platform and provide you with all sorts of custom features and a lot of these tend to be very technical as well and what we will see on the marketplace won’t get that technical but who knows where this could lead so on the

Marketplace we already have a ton of custom content including mods and blocks and these are currently packaged through worlds that you download go into and play that custom experience and this content’s been around for a long time but it seems like they’ve been able to do something now that might seem rather

Simple which is to Simply uncouple that custom content from the world you download it in so here on the website we have some previews of these add-ons and all the wall will add tons of different types of wall blocks into the game the different here is that you’ll be able to

Put it in your own world so you can bring this custom experience to your own Minecraft world this is achieved by visiting the marketplace where obviously they’re pushing the add-ons some of them are free some of them come at different prices so if you select one of these you

Can click on free and then it puts it into your account and then you can click on download to put it on your device once you’ve done this and you’re in the create new world screen there’s this Behavior down here on the left and that’s where you’ll see these additions

So the other one I’ve got is spark pets and you can activate it and then you can activate this one as well and I should have picked this one first because you can just access all of these different blocks straight away the other one I couldn’t actually figure out if there

Was a way for me to just you know bring the new pets into the world come ons commands like like I said I was pressed for time right ah we got a guinea pig and a Scottish Fold you are very very cute yeah now you can bring these Custom

Creations into your world like you would a mod pack in Java Edition another thing that you can do is edit an existing world go down to behavior packs and then enable another one so you can actually activate this into a previous world now earlier I mentioned that these probably

Weren’t going to be technical I don’t think the game engine is going to be opened up as much in a way that you can mod it like you do in Java Edition but certainly now we’ve got an equivalent to mod packs you know a way to bring in

Custom content to your own experiences on bedrock and currently the marketplace have teamed up with a few creators just to create some basic starter packs I think one of the things we might see in the future is a lot of moders on Java then also partnering with Microsoft and

Creating that content again on the marketplace possibly I’m just speculating here another Furniture looked really cool I didn’t actually spot this one in the store or maybe I was just not paying attention to the right spaces but this one brings in lots of custom furniture blocks into your

World and then there’s a paid for pack that has portals different types and colors that you can link together to get around your world using these portals and there’s another one here that adds computers and various features for those computers too and last of all there’s hiker’s friends which seems to add in

Some hiking themed items and blocks to the game but I’m not here to Showcase any of this stuff so I apologize if that’s what you hoping for I just wanted to inform the audience that this is here because I think this could really help bring a lot more

People back to Minecraft maybe because modded is one of the things a lot of people comment about on Java that keeps them playing after a while you lose interest but then you can go to the mods to reinvigorate your interest in the game and the thing about Java is that

Not a lot of people actually play it it seems to be content creators that use it disproportionately to the audience there is a heck of a lot of people out there playing on console on Nintendo switch and other devices and this just makes those custom experiences even more

Accessible I know this stuff has been available through Maps but those are always like single individual experiences and now you can actually just bring custom content to the classic Minecraft experience in your own world with your own seed and have the world that you want with the custom content

That you want too there is also speculation within the community at the moment that Minecraft might be on a bit of a decline of popularity which it’s certainly been through a few times before and over the years it’s swung back and forth this might be one of

Those things that brings players back to the game again so with all my Rambles in this video there was just one thing I mentioned earlier that I didn’t really elaborate on and that being that this could potentially be a path for Java moders to to make content on Bedrock 2

Now one of the negative things I wouldn’t be surprised to see is people saying that this will kill modded on Java I don’t think it’s going to be as Extreme as that and actually it could be a good thing because currently the modded scene on Java operates without

Making money it’s done by people out of passion for free and so if there’s then an Avenue for them to take their content to the marketplace and put it there as well make someone from it it could end up being a good thing I’m not saying it

Will or it won’t I just don’t think things are ever black and white or that extreme I think the modding scene on Java will still Thrive just as much and there has definitely been dramas in the past with content being lifted from java mods and put into the marketplace I’m

Aware though that some of that stuff has been shut down so I’m hoping that moang can handle this correctly uh not let that kind of thing happen again I think it’s really important to make sure that the content coming out on the marketplace isn’t just picked up from

Java and brought over to there of course if it’s the original auor of the mod then it’s a good thing and one last note for me personally I think this might be something that brings me over to bedrock if the right type of mods are available

Over there to just address a few things that I’m not so keen on about bedrock and maybe add some content into it that isn’t really available in Java or in the Java modded scene that might be something that gets me playing Bedrock Edition I have considered it many times

Over the years but the thing is you know I’m I’m a one world player and that world is always hermitcraft so I don’t know maybe between Seasons at some point in time I might do something on Bedrock oh and tomorrow you’re going to get a hermitcraft episode so make sure to

Subscribe if you want to see that and there’s probably plenty more things we could talk about as well but as I mentioned earlier I’m kind of pressed for time I won’t be able to make your Snapshot video tomorrow but I plan to do it THS thing on Thursday and I hope this

Little uh video was informal now you know about add-ons and of course join the discussion down below I’m really interested to see what all of you make of this cuz like I said I think this could be a really big deal but anyway that’s it for me thanks for listening

And I’ll see you soon bye-bye

  1. Minecraft has addons now? Crazyyyyy.. weird that I've developed and played them for years now… Thank god it's new and you can even pay for them now!!

  2. Yeah hello, Bedrock modder here

Yes Bedrock edition has have addons since like 2016… it is not new

However, addons is not directly the same as mods on Java

I’ve been coding mods on Java for 2 months now as compare to 4 years 3.5 years on Bedrock and there’s still a lot of things addons can’t do the same way as Java

    – We can’t create organized creative menus
    – Can’t create custom tooltips for items
    – Vanilla items and blocks cannot be modified (especially bows and arrows so you can’t make it so that you shoot apples with a bow etc)
    – Can’t create custom potions effects (like actual effects)
    – Can’t create custom items with limitless functionality (Most time you have to resort to lots of function commands)
    – Can’t create custom GUI for custom functionality blocks
    – Can’t create a custom dimension (trust me look it up most times it’s either a box or a structure spawned 2000 blocks away)
    – Can’t create nbt tags for items

  3. I tried the furniture add on, I like what it adds, but the hotboxes are wack, and all of the added items are considered entities for some reason, so when testing I had to kill some mobs that I spawned, so I did the kill @e command, and all of the furniture I placed "died" so those are the two things I think they should change, the hitboxes and the fact that they are entities

  4. People are not understanding in the comments, the addons are not the same as mods downloaded online. Yes they are through the marketplace, but it allows console players on our realm to effectively have mods on the world weve been playing on for years.

  5. This is big, just didn't expect it to be bedrock exclusive. Still waiting on that "Modding API" they announced years and years ago
(If Skyrim has taught me anything it's that I don't like paid mods either)

  6. As several others have said Add-ons that you can add to your own worlds have been on Bedrock for several years now. I even made a few small Add-ons myself a couple years ago. Suddenly Minecraft is marketing them as a new thing but they aren’t actually new

  7. I would love if someone could help me! I have been a bedrock xbox player for almost 10 years. I made a copy of my world to try out some of the new add ons (furniture and many different blocks). It will not let me delete any of these blocks can someone tell me why please? I only play in creative. Also will this mess up my world that I have had forever with new updates?

  8. At the time im writing this there is content on the marketplace that is available on curseforge/modrith too but on the marketplace it is not published by the original author(s)
This is quite a big problem

  9. Disappointed that most disable achievements. Like the naturalists one that adds a whole lot of new animals disable achievements when they don’t even add that much new items.

  10. As a console player, this has been so cool! This has been great, for me at least, sure they can have some issues sometimes, but honestly, having them at all makes me happy!

Console people rarely get the fun stuff, so I'm happy getting just about anything new bro.

  11. People in the comments are say it’s been out for a while but that’s downloading mods of the internet and apps and most of them don’t work this is so much better in my opinion

  12. I like it but there is one complaint🖕one f##king complaint about it, every time i use the curtains one of my stuff in the hotbar if i touch it the curtains eat it or something, mojang or the add on creator please patch it right now!!!

  13. Definitely really cool but addons have been on bedrock for years its just now the market place has it now beinging it to console as there wasnt a way to download it on consoles. If you are looking for cool mods for bedrock poggys better on bedrock is a great mod. I love how this excites you instead of making you upset as I've seen a lot of people upset that they are payed mods.

  14. The difference between mods and addons is there is features coded into Minecraft for addons to work and mods directly change it at a fundamental way from the base. Addons are somewhere in between data packs and mods for a simple explanation. Im most excited for this change as hopefully it opens some doors in the addon creating scene and adds new features for creators not possible yet such as adding new dimensions and things like that.

  15. I dont care about paying money for mods like phyics mod pro on java, but the bad thing about the bedrock marketplace is that the content is low quality and i will usually be scammed

  16. WE HAVE HAD ADDONS FOR 9999999 YEARS I HATE HOW JAVA YT IS JUST GOING “ah so what are Addons” BECAUSE THE ONLY THING THEY THINK WE HAVE IS THE MARKETPLACE. WE HAVE SITES
