Oh how the mighty have fallen…

When it comes to thinking about the most iconic trial weapons a lot of varied things come to mind with early game relics like theora Masa star Fury and star cannon all being instantly recognizable as Terraria Staples and so today we’re going to be looking at a similarly classic weapon which if I’m

Honest I can’t believe we haven’t reviewed yet yes of course I’m talking about the legendary Water Bolt now of course this thing has seen quite the transformation in the 12 years as it’s been in the game so I do Wonder after having its progression Point completely altered is it still something you should

Be going for or has this Mighty prehart mod Beast fallen from its Throne before we jump into it though if you enjoy these weapon review videos don’t forget to drop a like and sub as it truly helps out the Channel all right then let’s see

How you get one these days now I don’t think it’s going to be much news to anyone that the Water Bolt is found in your dungeon however there is just one key change to mention that came with the 1.4 update it is now strictly post Skeletron meaning no matter how hard you

Look you’re going to get slaughtered by a dungeon guardian before you can reach it well aside from the very freak scenarios where you can so assuming you do need to defeat Skeletron to obtain this thing just like that this one’s pre-boss weapon is situated near the end of prehard mode with Skeletron usually

Needing quite a good few hours of PRM to defeat either way though once you have done this the Water Bolt will appear hidden amongst books on the shelves of the dungeon with it having a 2% chance of replacing any regular book during your search make sure to Mouse over

Every book you pass as a delightful overlay of the spell tone will appear on your mouse curser so you better get inspecting those books like a madman and luckily for me after only a few minutes of exploring I found mine right here right then let’s see if it still holds

Its own after all these years the Water Bolt is one of those weapons which is simple but so damn effective with it firing a slow but ricocheting projector which is completely unaffected by gravity and with a base damage of 19 now thanks to a buffing 1.4 you can expect a

Lovely 60 OD DPS on single targets and upwards of 100 if you overlap your shots also one of the main utilities of the Water Bolt is how it’s one of the best room clearing weapons in the whole game with that Max five riger shares making a

Small space a death Z very easily but while it is all well and good with it now being where it is unfortunately its compet I gets bued up with weapons like the flower of firebean in my mind is non-direct upgrade to this weapon and this does deal a load more single Target

Damage and still has the bouncy projectiles too also with it being tied to the dungeon even a BOGO standard Aquis can now deal some Hefty single Target damage which is impressive for a weapon design for lions and last but not least we of course have the demon Scythe

Possibly the best preh Half Magic Weapon period that can technically be obtained well before the war Vault and yeah things are suddenly looking rather rough however let’s not forget the Water Bolt main craft dealing with groups and as you can see here despite its lower damage being able to pierce eight

Targets is seriously no joke and completely annihilates the much more single Target based flower of fire Here Also let’s take a second to appreciate that it also now about matches the demon C from groups which is just a humongous upgrade to its single Target comparison so then with the water support looking

Quite solid again let’s see how it does against the real thing and well if I’m completely honest here mostly bre harbard weapons will steam roll anything they go up against but as you can still see piercing is super valuable with the flower of fire now appearing as the

Weakest link out of these options so for a better comparison I thought I’d matches against some more tankier mimics all the way from hard mode and I think this really goes to show just how damn powerful the demon Scythe really is like the Water Bolt is far from terrible here

But it demon Cy is definitely up another level if I am honest though this damage output still can’t replace the Water Bolt Signature Room clear ability which is conveniently just what you need when exploring the dungeon for the first time and well past this point while the water

Bol can still be a pretty good weapon for defeating any optional bosses you have missed like penb and de clops the real question is how it does against the main man himself the Wall of Flesh and as you can see despite its significant obtainability Nerf in 1.4 at least it

Was given some compensation in terms of a damage buff which means against this boss it’s actually better than ever still be one of the safest and quickest ways to defeat the Wall of Flesh in the game just so you do know though if you happen to obtain a demon Scythe while

Building your hellbridge you might want to swap to down instead it’s despite the water Bolt’s greatness the Scythe was able to kill it twice as fast yeah it is a little goodly strong and this then leads me on to the main question has the Water Bolt fallen from fame or is it

Still worth getting in modern Terraria and well yes and no as while its performance past Skeletron is really good some of its main uses like the Skeletron killer no more making it a lot less useful and of course with the demon SC existing and excelling in many

Scenarios there any so much the water vaol can do for you in this small slice of progression this has been stiz and I’ll see you in the next one

Oh how the mighty have fallen… The Water Bolt Terraria magic weapon. Somehow, after all these years of Terraria weapon reviews, I haven’t yet covered one of the most iconic Terraria weapons in the game: The legendary Water Bolt. Been introduced 12 years ago in the base version of Terraria, the Water Bolt has had quite the roll coaster of effectiveness, with it previously been the pre-Hardmode king, and now… well lets take a look! Enjoy!

  1. I don't understand why they locked the Water Bolt post-Skeletron when the Demon's Scythe is obtainable pre-boss and stronger than the Water Bolt when you eventually obtain it.

  2. Honestly, the waterbolt is my all time favorite weapon due to how iconic it is. I wish they kept the old projectile sprite from prior to 1.2 though.

  3. I loved water bolt on my first run, since one spawned on surface part of dungeon to me there and it was easy to use, not much demanding on mana and decent damage putput

  4. It's a great weapon, but it gets outcompeted too fast. Dungeon weapons are supposed to be weaker than Hell weapons, but there's nothing between the Dungeon and Hell so they get replaced too quickly. Blue Moon is the most tragic victim of this, it's just a weaker version of Sunfury, but it looks so cool. Maybe if they inflicted a debuff or extra damage against Hell enemies, they are water-themed after all.

  5. I mean…to be fair, it was always intended to be post-Skeletron, what with it being in the Dungeon, and not being obtainable before said fight (disregarding the Guardian here) in all worlds. Really, I think that the Demon Scythe needs a change (one that would probably piss off a lot of people): I think it needs to get a higher drop chance (5%), and still drop from Demons…but only after the WoF has been killed. In exchange for this nerf, it would get the following buffs: 1. Base damage would be increased from 35 to 40; and 2. It would now inflict the Shadowflame debuff for 3-5 seconds. No other changes would be needed.

  6. Water bolt and water walking potions just shred WoF from several screens without any magic equipment. This is stable method for master hardmode WoF that more similar to cheese with crazy obtainability

  7. If there's one thing you need to start considering in your videos about mage weapons, it's sustain. On paper, the demon sythe seems like a direct upgrade, but it's high mana cost keeps it in check. The water bolt, however, it's cheaper, and can dish out a lot more dps against wall because of the sustain.

This is why I think you should re-visit the meteor staff video. It's not all sunshine and rainbows, take a look at that mana cost!

  8. If there was an invasion between skeletron and WoF it would be useful for that, but except for the off chance of a slime rain or goblin invasion, it's something I pick up in the dungeon, use it there, and bury in a chest and replace with better loot relatively quickly.

  9. Is it okay if I recommend the blizzard staff to be reviewed? I feel like it's always overshadowed by the razorpine because the razorpine is slightly easier to get. But the blizzard staff is a really good mage weapon, and can almost match the razorpine in usability

  10. As a mage connoisseur myself, getting early access to magic weapons in pre-hardmode is a pain in the rear. You have to get lucky with finding a Wand of Sparking and/or go on an endless grind underground for things like silt/slush, finding an Extractinator, finding gems in general, and so on and so on, just to get access to magic staves, the basic mage weapons.

  11. Its slow projectile speed actually helps it even more, along with its knockback, for basic mobs, effectively hitting the same target multiple times during the projectiles lifespan, with its high hit count supplementing it even more.

If anything, I feel the water bolt highlights how raw damage isn't everything, but supplements the traits a weapon brings to the table, given the sheer quantity of secondary effects it has, such as bouncing, piercing, and so on.

  12. The Water Bolt is yet another victim of the 1.4 forced linear progression that the devs put into pre-hardmode. It used to be good but rare, when you could find it above ground. It was fun while it lasted. RIP Water Bolt.

  13. Not gunna lie, you should of said "Mythical Waterbolt," since it would be technically correct since through normal means, Waterbolts can't be legendary. Just saying

  14. I did menage to not get one in a medium sized world. Was my spellbook playthrough. FUN!!!
My favorite Magic weapon pre hardmode is magic missile. It was buffed to match flamelash damage in numbers, but still does lose because of the on fire debuff. But being able to shot underwater beats the damage potential, and it homes too. Great weapon all around.

  15. I didn’t even know the water bolt’s spawning was changed by 1.4. Post-skele and even as dungeon loot it’s not that amazing. I would always prefer the aqua scepter or magic missile, and those don’t even require searching.

  16. you know, i wish we could combine the flower of fire, flower of frost and hellfire tome into a better fireball spell weapon, i enjoyed them so much and then they just stop being viable.

  17. I think you should've compared the waterbolt to post-buff Magic Missile and Flamelash.
Waterbolt was the only good pre-boss magic weapon with a little luck, but with its new situation its pretty bad. The magic missile and flamelash are both easier to use and can dish out crazy damage against all types of enemies post buff (seriously those things are crazy powerful). That doesn't even include the fact you can get the space gun before the waterbolt too!
It's just a pretty poor weapon now, usable but you shouldn't go out of your way to find it in the dungeon, as a pre-boss weapon it was great.

  18. I really hope it gets buffed in 1.4.5, but I know it isn't going to happen. Long past are the days where this weapon was THE wall of flesh killer…

  19. How do you fire the water bolt 15 directions at the same time? I saw you doing that at the end of the video. If that's not a feature of the water bolt, that's pretty disingenuous for you to put it in the video

  20. I'm surprised to see that this weapon has gotten buffed three times, and never nerfed, (except for the added depth restriction). It's such a good weapon, and it feels great to use.

Having access to it before fighting Skeletron was insanely overpowered, but I did enjoy it for sure.

  21. Although the Water Bolt is much more difficult to get now, its use cases in prehardmode are still fairly solid.
In particular when dealing with invasions that keep sending waves of enemies like the Goblin Army or Old One's Army where they approach from both sides.

The Water Bolt only needs two walls on each side of you to create a nice damaging buffer zone for any enemies coming towards you and you don't even need a mage build for it either!
Just shoot a couple of bolts to either side and swap to another weapon to finish off the battered baddies with ease!

It honestly deserves another chance against the Wall of Flesh because if the "roof" of the bridge isn't too high, you can use the Water Bolt's bouncing projectile to clean up the hungries and leeches that come for you while you mix and match with your other weapons (Try shooting the Water Bolt inside an obsidian house while the Wall is approaching, it is a delight!)

  22. I still bring it with myself with its best reforge even though there are better options,it's still my favourite spellbook in the game. I remember seeing people beating the destroyer with it,but those were old clips

  23. The most classic weapon ever. Im kinda biased how this video interpreted waterbolt as an 'average' weapon, even though its second best mage weapon to deal every prehardmode boss out of all prehardmode weapons. But its not about being second, but about being such an easy to use one.
Honestly Yrimir's video about killing wall of flesh easily with 100 hp and 1.0.5 inventory is still in my heart and oh boy, this weapon is much easier to use against basically anything on the map – starting on invasions, caves exploration, dungeon crowd controlling finally ending at bosses than any other PH mage weapon in the entire game. Yet this weapon is usable against destroyer too unlike being demon scythe being a little worse at this task in my opinion is a big win for this one.

  24. best part is it can still steam roll the WoF faster than the Demon Scythe since when firing it horizontally it’s piercing allows it to damage all 3 targets at once
