I Added a Shimmer Boss to Terraria

Stof clocking your world apparently interestingly besides adding a few new recipes not a lot is really been going on with the Shimmer in the modding scene which is understandable I guess after all moders have spent years building up content around the other aspects of the game and I can see why they wouldn’t

Want to go out of their way to add new content to this rather complicated feature that just got added however this situation seems to give me a bit of an advantage you see my mod is still very early in development it doesn’t have any huge projects bogging it down that I

Feel obligated to work on right now in fact I’m simply going through the process of adding random bosses to random biomes with that in mind it seems only fitting that I should leave my mark on this new feature by giving it its very own boss and spoiler alert I

Show you an unedited video of the fight then maybe I’ll come back and tell you anything that I didn’t think was Obvious Sh here he O Now you’ve seen the fight so here are a few things you might not have guessed if at any point during the fight you leave The Ether Bond the boss will immediately despawn the boss doesn’t deal contact damage when it’s transparent and it does deal contact damage when it isn’t

Transparent and in the attack where it shoot stars at you at random intervals if the stars touch the Shimmer they’ll turn into purple stars and shoot at you a second time before you go there’s one more thing I’d like to show you the ether Dragon of course is going to need

Some unique Loot and although I haven’t made all of it yet I have made its expert mode drop the item is called the endless Shimmer potion as you might have gathered from the name it’s an infinitely reusable potion that gives you the Shimmer buff allowing you to face through blocks on command this

Might break the game and it might be completely useless I don’t know but I do know that it makes for a pretty decent expert mode reward and with that being said this video is over now I know I didn’t give this boss my highest praise

  1. You should actually add in something called “Shimmer Scales” where you can craft shimmer armor, and it will have 4 different head pieces for each class

    Summoner: mini aether dragon that just acts like a weaker stardust dragon
    Ranger: when shooting a gun, it will shoot out a little aether bullet thing (whatever things at 4:09 are) occasionally
    Mage: aether stars will empower the magic weapons, adding 3 different affects to them, the 3 being homing even if the weapon doesn’t home in normally, aether flame (where it will do 10 damage a second, and can’t be put out with water) and orbital mini aether stars that orbit around the magic weapon projectile
    Melee: you gain an aether dash where you dash vertically, either up or down, and it basically does the same thing as the solar shield dash where it deals damage when you dash into an enemy, and melee all weapons will gain a projectile called “aether sword” where it summons a homing sword that doesn’t pierce each swing

    Just my idea though lol

  2. I love the aesthetic of the glowing purple contrasted with the dark space background. Also love the stars growing on the back and bursting. Maybe change the damage sound effect? Could get annoying after awhile.

    Also I dont know if you're planning on making a space boss but I think it would be a boss you had to fight at high altitude with low gravity.

    My idea is the Aurora Borealis and the Aurora Australis. Two snake bosses, one green-orange the other blue-putple. Not worm bosses, their AI wouldn't need to pass through earth to turn around, they'd be much closer to Wyvern AI.

    They'd slowly weave through the air. Maybe one will circle you while the other tries to run into you? I think it would be cool to have more dual bosses like the twins.

  3. I really like this idea, I think it’s neat how the projectiles have a similar feel to undertale and their attacks
    Keep this up! I think a shimmer theme boss is an excellent idea
    If you are having trouble with weapon drops, I think an aether whip would be cool, especially since whips are very limited in terraria

  4. I really like this boss. Its cool, unlocks a major feature, adds mystique and hype to the shimmer, fun, and reasonable difficulty for any clsss. Good stuff!

    Maybe it could drop weapons overall that work through blocks?

    A mage staff beam that phases through walls, a prehardmode stardust dragon, a bow that converts wooden arrows into jester arrows that phase through walls, or a true melee sword with wallhacks- could be useful withiut being broken against WOF or skeletron.

  5. What if you made it so that instead of it spawning immediately upon entering the aether, it spawns when you try to do a transmutation, you try to use the shimmer for the first time, it spits your item back out and summons the boss.

    Edit: maybe you could add an item obtainable via shimmer that summons the boss when dropped in shimmer, so you can kill it multiple times.

  6. i think its sprite should be more detailed, for the drop it may be some shimmer blocks, a trophy and a shimmer water pistol (from 1.4.5 update) and maybe some kind of mage/melee weapon. I think Dragon must be re-summonable like with a item that can be obtained through shimmering boss summon item and called "Aether feast"

  7. Pretty decent boss. I don’t actually have much to give feedback on, unlike previous bosses I made comments on. This one seems well made and the attacks are challenging while not being overly difficult. As Possiblyblumorous already stated, it is possible Aether Wyrm might be a better name. Good job.

  8. To me this is one of the easiest bosses in the mod, i know that is very hard for a pre boss boss, but with the right equipment this can be very easy except master mode.

  9. I like to imagine someone rushing in and out of the Aether biome repeatedly in order to keep despawning the dragon while getting the shimmer buffs

  10. Maybe make it able to be summoned again after it has been defeated the first time, maybe by crafting a dragon plush and throwing it into the shimmer, because such a cool concept only being able to be fought one time is kinda disappointing
