This challenge has been completed before but on Calamity.
Good thing 1.4.4 got released and changed a lot of weapons, making the True Melee subclass viable. The challenge was fun, but could be better at some points. It took a lot of time to record and edit this since I had way too much stuff to do outside of YouTube.

Phantasm, can YOU finish Terraria using true melee only? You keep using non-melee damage sources such as bone glove. You keep using melee weapons that produce non-melee effects. How is the Horseman Blade true melee? It's like "can you beat terraria using abigail only" while using whips lol.

This is not true melee, some of your weapons had their projectiles, rotten fork is the example. It doesn't matter that the projectile stays close to you, it's still one

if the devs really want to make true melee viable, there needs to be some sort of overhaul to how contact damage works
During my first playthrough I used the queen slime mount as mobility up until moon lord (skipping EOL and Dike Fishron)

1.4.4 is so great for true melee, with the night's edge, dark lance, rotted fork, gungnir buffs, and true excalibur being a melee weapon. When I did it I had to use fetid baghnakhs to kill the destroyer and then it was gungnir until I got either keybrand or the psycho knife, I forget which one I used. Either way it was pretty tough to beat the empress, but once I got the starlight (which is my favourite of ANY melee weapon) it was smooth sailing to the moon lord 🙂
I will say though, even fighting Golem with the pre-1.4.4 gungnir wasn't enough to make him a challenge, lol
Nights edge is NOT true melee since the swinging dark thing is a projectile, not the actual sword hitbox. its what is meant to make true melee hard, you cant use zenith, excalibur, etc because they are projectiles
Blood butcherer and Lights bane shred for their point in progression, i can eveb say blood butcherer is better than the rotted fork with complete confidence because of its insane DoT. 20 damage after t stacks is more than most flasks
Skeletron is anlot easier for true melee with a bee keeper and hive pack. That sword has insane dps and the bees slap
now do it on master mode
I wish there was a use for the muramasa especially in 1.4 it’s so cool, but it gets immediately shelved as a nights edge component

I remember back in the day, before wings, when the bundle of balloons was the best accessory you could get. And back in the slightly less day when you could make an event grinder using slime statues and the horseman's blade. Good times!

True melee truly highlights how trash close quarter combat is in this game
The Hallowed Mask is straight up better than the Valhalla Knight's Helm. More defense and melee offensive stats while the Helm and set bonus of the Valhalla Knight Armor only buff sentries and summon damage.
