How To Achieve ULTRA INSTINCT In Terraria (Anyone Can Do It)

Hello, Yardis here, and today we’re going to be covering some extra ways to practice your dodging. Also, this video works as a standalone video despite being a sequel to my dodging guide, so don’t click off please, just go watch it after if you haven’t already.

First things first, let’s go over my obstacle course practice method. I finally made an example obstacle course, and here it is. I built three main sections, one focusing on horizontal movement, one focusing on vertical movement and one focusing on circular movement.

There are four levels to the horizontal and vertical sections, and two variations for the circular section. And yeah, let me show you a quick demo of what it looks like to use this to practice. Next up, let’s tackle another big dawg in the room, which is where to look when dodging?

The issue with talking about this is that it’s pretty hard to teach and put into words, but I’ll try my best regardless. The short answer is that it’s purely preference, but I’ll show you what I do anyway. I’ll use the intro clip from my previous guide as reference.

Pretty much all I do is look for empty spots, and while I move to those empty spots, I look for areas that will soon be empty, and prepare to move there once I think it’s safe.

For example, in this situation, I’m looking here, and then preparing to move to one of those spots I mentioned before. Hope this makes some sense, and another example is when I finally died, I was eyeing this spot, but was just barely too late in reaching it, ruining the clip.

Hope this gave you some insight. In reality, once again, it’s just preference, and I don’t think you should pay too much mind to where your eyes are on the screen. I think if you just keep practicing, your brain will handle the rest. That’s my take anyway.

Now let’s talk about some of the tips I forgot to mention in the previous video, and some of your guys’ tips. And don’t you forget, I read all comments. So don’t be shy, and go shoot something down there for me.

Fortunately, I made a comment detailing some of these tips that I should have mentioned in the video but because I was lazy, I didn’t include in the video. These include play whipless summoner, and in parentheses I said so you can focus purely on dodging.

And next was to focus on movement equips, which include magiluminescence, soaring insignia, slimy saddle, and even feather falling potions. These add more movement options and increase your speed, or decrease your speed in the case of the feather falling potion.

And this tip I feel like is extremely overrated, and it’s to play other bullet hells, Touhou and Undertale for example, because Terraria has the gravity and acceleration factors to consider, while Undertale and Touhou don’t really have that.

I think Hollow Knight might be a better game to play to get better at Terraria than those two, but the best game to play to get better at Terraria is… Terraria. Bet you didn’t know that one. And I had said to join the Calamity No-Hit Discord or other communities that chase Terraria challenges,

And this is so you can get real time help with whatever you’re struggling with. And the next tip is redundant, don’t know why I wrote that. And take breaks often. You don’t want to be like me and destroy your wrists and fingers. That would be bad.

You can’t play video games if you have no fingers. Oh, and that is also another tip that you should not read. Oh, we were not looking at that one, okay. And yeah, now let’s go over some of the stuff you guys said.

There’s a lot of tips about where to look, and they’re all different, so I think I won’t be going over them in this video. But you guys say a lot of good stuff, so I’m not trying to knock that.

Oh, and this is something that I think you should only do as a beginner, and it’s to focus on your player’s hitbox, because eventually I feel like it should just be muscle memory and you should be looking elsewhere, like bullet trajectories and empty spots like I do.

Think this is mainly only for really tight dodging. And yeah, thank you to Delivery Pickle. They’re the one who made me remember featherfall potions. And yeah, like they say, it gives you a whole new dimension of vertical movement. Yeah, it’s just another option to move, which is really good.

I personally don’t use it because I have not developed the muscle memory for it quite yet, and I’m not sure if I ever will, but it’s very, very, very strong. Oh, and this user talks about the double tap dash override, and that’s where you bind your dash to a key or,

Even your mouse in this person’s case. Instead of double tapping A or D, it makes dashing a lot faster. It’s not completely necessary, but highly recommended, especially for stuff like Infernum Devourer of Gods, because that boss is pretty much completely balanced with dashing in mind.

And next up is, ooo, they talk about portal gun. It’s pretty much just a better slimy saddle or different use, I guess. It is way faster than slimy saddle. I believe we can go up to 179 miles per hour fall speed, which is crazy.

And there’s no risk of the little slimy saddle bounce that happens sometimes if you don’t have enough downwards momentum. So I think portal gun might be better than slimy saddle, or the skill cap is higher at least. Oh yeah, funny thing was GitGud, commented on this video recently. Pretty cool.

Oh, speaking of which, another YouTuber, beeleav, he might be the funniest Terraria YouTuber in my opinion. And yeah, he seems to agree with just watching better players play, which holds true in pretty much every game, I think. If you just watch people better than you play, you can analyze what they do and

Try to mimic that in your own game play. Oh, whoops, haha. Well, I guess I’ll, explain this while I’m at it. So I made the walls and the circle out of Auric Tesla ore. It makes it more punishing to mess up, you know, your movement.

If you want to fix that just wear Auric Tesla armor and you won’t bounce on it anymore. Oh, and I recommend using gravity normalizer potions when you’re doing any of the vertical levels because otherwise you will have to deal with the space gravity and your movement might be all messed up.

And I would like to explain all of my movement gear that I use. So I commonly use the reaver armor with a visage helmet because it makes your dash cooldown way faster. Same with hook. Your hook is faster too, just by a bit.

And another piece of armor that’s really helpful is the demonshade greaves. They make you just zoom. See that? Oh my gosh. And then I always wear some sort of dash. In this case, the Asgardian Aegis is probably the best.

And magiluminescence. I cannot go without it because it gives you a huge increase in acceleration and deceleration. Soaring insignia is less important, but I still use it in every playthrough pretty much because again, more acceleration. And then dragon scales. You can’t get this until Yharon, but more acceleration.

Uh… you can see there’s a common theme here. Stress pills, more acceleration. And then vital jelly. And I think any other movement gear would work here. The fully upgraded version is the absorber. And then these are the hooks that I use in my videos. The bobbit hook.

It’s the really fast one that you see everyone use to fly up places. And then anti-gravity hook. I used this versus Cirrus and the desperation phase. Found out just going in a circle was really OP for the gaster blasters. Oh, and now let’s talk about the slimy saddle and portal gun.

Just, y’know, common knowledge, increases your fall speed. And portal gun. It’s much faster than slimy saddle, but it doesn’t have the instantaneous downwards movement, that slimy saddle has. But as you can see, it’s much faster and it’s 102 miles per hour. Why did I think it was 179?

And now this is my vanity that I use in all my videos. The snowman vanity that I’m wearing right now with Jim’s wings. And you’ve seen this. It’s the Yharim outfit. You know the drill. And these are wings that I commonly use. These are just the wings I prefer at their respective tiers.

And so Empress wings for anything post Empress and before Moon Lord. Post Moon Lord, I use celestial starboard. Drew’s wings. I use them over the seraph tracers because if you compare the two, Drew’s wings have slightly better flight time, acceleration and speed. But you sacrifice all the passive effects of the seraph tracers.

So who knows if it’s worth it? And the most common wing you’ll see in my videos, the soul of dimensions that I’m wearing right now. You get infinite flight and it’s really fast. And for the settings on it, I just turn everything off because it feels terrible. No momentum, for example.

It’s like, whoa, what am I? What game am I playing? These are the stations that I use. Weightless candle, non-negotiable. You have to use this or you really should highly recommended. You get more acceleration, wing time and movement speed. Slice of cake just increases your movement speed.

The corruption effigy sacrifices your damage reduction for movement speed. The sunflower gives you movement speed. Swiftness potion. These are my potions now. Movement speed. Bounding potion gives you more off the ground jump speed, which is very valuable to me. Gravity normalizer. We talked about this before. And the soaring potion.

Very, very strong potion. More flight time is always useful. And if you’re a true melee user, you can extend your flight time a lot because of the passive. Now let’s talk about clearing up your screen.

Yeah, let’s say you’re having some issues seeing because of all your minions or your weapon is too blinding. If you download Fargo’s Mutant Mod, you go to client config, there’s a transparent friendly projectile slider. You set that to zero and everything disappears except for particles.

So let’s hope it’s not like endoneogenesis and doesn’t keep spewing all this garbage and you can control this however you’d like. So if you want to see them sort of, you can make them just slightly transparent instead of fully invisible. Huge example is the slime rain. See how blinding it is?

But you put that to zero and boom, can’t see nothing except for when the slime hits the ground. Well, that’s all from me. Subscribe if you want more. And hit that like button if you enjoyed the video, or dislike, whichever fits better. This was Yardis and take care of yourselves.

See you next time.

A standalone sequel to my popular dodging guide.

  1. Love that my comment was included, I need to get back into terraria too busy taking 50 hours of my life to be not 50% done with an insane challenge in a different game.

Yeah nothing can beat portal gun as my main form of different movement in any mod with post ml content, I wish it was post plant and sold by the cyborg so I could use it for eol

  2. as someone who has a shit ton of hours on this game but is decent but still pretty mid at dodging (my best achievement is beating infernum ;-;) I don't know how easily I will get accustomed to building acceleration and just being super confident in my dodging but I'll have to practice these vids helped a lot especially flying with W

  3. Yardis… after watching your old tutorial I have now become the goat of terraria… I will use this new knowledge to surpass my limits and become something even greater… I thank you for always teaching me ⚡️🐐

  4. 3:45 I second that HK is great to get better at Terraria! Literally the main reason I can beat end game infernum bosses is because of Hollow Knight's bosses. Without that game i would be even more horrendous at Terraria than I actually am lol

  5. my first nohit was master+death nighttime providence. it took me many weeks to pull it off, but in the long run, I feel like I'm so much better at the game than before. sometimes being an overachiever works out.

  6. Hi Yardis

I heard you read all your comments and wanted to say thank you for reading this.
I hope you are having a great day and I wanted to thank you for such an informative guide

  7. Coming from both Touhou (2017, all games yhat were playable on windows) and Hollow Knight (in 2022, got it as a gift), both games gave benefits to dodging, Hollow Knight has gravity, while Touhou helps with, dodging more

Touhou was the series that made me think I wasn't on Malice mode as the bosses seemed too easy, it really helps, even if the gravity is different, you get used to it in Terraria

(Though if gravity keeps screwing you, either more Terraria practice is needed, or Hollow Knight)

I've played Undertale too, just, it never helped much since you don't fight any bosses in confined spaces…

    (There's Golem, but, it's Golem…)

Personally I prefer making my movement in all directions as equal as possible, it feels more similar to Touhou, and gives higher degrees of movement, (dashes I don't use as often since it's lead to a few incidents, plus, no boss requires a dash) some ways to do that would be:

Using helpful items like the Portal Gun, or Slime Mounts to increase falling speed, or Feather Fall potions, or the Umbrella to decrease it

Use the wings or boots that have high acceleration and max speed, (you sacrifice some flight time, but… Soaring Insignia, if you're playing a mod that removes infinite flight, it most likely also has wings that are better, and grant more flight time than vanilla ones)

Alternatively, the Gravitation Potion with the Portal Gun or a Slime Mount allows fast vertical movement in any direction, though needs lots of practice

For fast circular movement, the Anti-Gravity Hook helps, though you need something to grapple onto, and some planning is involved

Use movement items that allow you to stop quickly, from the Ice Rod (that can go very badly, but it works), Grappling Hooks, or movement accesories

There are also many types of dodging, such as dodging without wings using platforms, dodging with dashes, dodging by outrunning the enemy, dodging by teleportation, ans more

Also, use a weapon that doesnt cover the screen, other projectiles, or is too distracting, or does too little damage, homing helps

Razorpine, Resonance Sceptre, Rainbow Rod, Clorophyte Bullets, Nanite Bullets, some Summon Weapons, some Sentries, Whips without projectiles, are all good options, and there's more too

With these, you can beat any boss (though items differ slightly in mods)

  8. one of the tips i like to give to my friends whenever i play multiplayer is "stop moving", since a lot of people who are bad at dodging (conciously or unconsciously) enter a state of panic, especially when at low hp, where they just keep running and dont actually focus on the projectiles. granted this style of play works for most vanilla bosses and even a lot of modded bosses (most notably Exo Mechs) so its kind of hard to actually convey unless we're fighting something like providence, where moving too much will kill you very fast, and even then a lot of my friends took this advice very literally and just fully stood still.

  9. I think my biggest weakness whilst playing modded terraria would be the lag. Even just normal mode DoG can be almost impossible because of the frame drop it presents, dropping down to 2-10 fps at times during the grid attack. My pc has pretty okay specs, and can run game like Overwatch at 360 frames per second, consistently, and games like Geometry Dash at upwards of 3 thousand frames per second consistently. But Terraria, I dont know how to make not lag. Do you have any tips or workarounds I could use to make my game run smoother? or at least more consistently?

  10. Really helpful vid. I was also trying out double speed nameless deity to see how far i needed to go. I will keep trying it for a while in hopes of mastering it but i cant seem to understand the javelin attack which is the transition between phase 1 and 2. I mostly try to keep moving left with slight taps to the right to get in between javelins but its not only inconsistent, but also hard to get used to so i was wondering if there was a strategy for this
