There are two things you need to know about the shite helmet one good and one bad and how they interact with each other first the good bit unlike most stat Buffs and armor or accessories shite headpieces bonuses are multiplicative not additive meaning they’re a lot more potent but what does

That mean let’s say you have a range damage boost of plus 70% and you’re about to equip an accessory that boosts range damage by 15% say the ranger envelope when you equip the accessory your range damage boost goes from plus 7 % to plus 85% an increase of plus 15% pretty

Standard this is an additive boost which is what most boosts in Terraria are additive boosts work relative to the base damage not the post boost final damage so the difference between having equipped and not is less than 15% in this case it would be a roughly 8.8% difference between having the emblem

Equipped and not meanwhile multiplicative Buffs are just the opposite multiplicative bonuses apply relative to the final damage not the base this makes them much more potent and their potency relatively increases as your final damage gets increased by other additive boosts with an additive plus 70% damage a 15% multiplicative boost would be equivalent

To an additive boost of plus 25.5% and at 100% damage is equivalent to plus 30% being multiplicative this means the shite head Pie’s boosts are much more powerful than the 15% boost implies relative to the other boosts in the game meaning that you really really want to use them however this is

Countered by the second bit you may know that ammunition has a range damage stat just like weapons most boosts in the game apply to both the weapon and its ammunition creating a single uniform boost across both however the shite headpieces being specialized only apply to the weapon not the

Ammunition this means that relative to other boosts the trite headpieces are a bit less effective as the boosts apply to less damage and as the ammunition becomes relatively stronger compared to the weapon the shite headpieces Buffs become relatively weaker as they apply to less of the total damage we can draw

The conclusion then that is possible that our ammunition is so relatively powerful that the loss from the shit’s boost only applying to the weapon outweighs the gain for the multiplicative bonus even at high additive damage levels the prime example of this is the shite helmet plus a launcher like the Snowman Cannon an

Unreal snowman Cannon has a base damage of 77 and many n ones have a b base damage of 75 as you can tell here the ammunition makes up almost half of your base damage and remember that half is entirely unaffected by the shite helmet’s boost the math works out that

At a typical crit chance and enemy defense you need north of 200% additive damage in order to make the shat helmet better than the Adamantite mask which is the next best helmet yeah that’s an unrealistic amount at standard additive damage amount the other mask will Edge

Out the shite mask by about four or so% that’s pretty significant most launchers like a snowman Cannon electrosphere launcher Jackal Lantern launcher or rocket launcher suffer from this issue they have nearly one to one weapon to ammo damage ratios in this case it is better to use the Adamantite mask versus a

Bows and guns have a much better weapon to ammo damage ratio than launchers typically are around 3:1 to 6:1 instead of 1:1 you will still need some DPS for the shite to be better typically around 40% for guns and 60% for bows but in these cases the shite headpieces will be

Very very slightly better so in conclusion you can say three things one if you’re using launchers don’t use a shite helmet it’s generally going to be much better and cheaper to use the Adamantite mask or Hollow helmet save yourself some working resources the only time you should be making a shite helmet

Is if you plan to M the Stinger or nail gun two the multiplicative bonus of the shite set isn’t what it seems when looking at it on paper it seems almost uniquely broken but this ammo trade-off almost cancels it out in a way it’s a lot weaker than you think it also

Doesn’t help that the shite helmet has 5% less crit chance in its animatic counterpart as well since crit chance works like a multiplicative damage buff this is pretty significant and last ly three even when using the mask with bullets and headgear with arrows the benefits of using shite are marginal

Especially with non-dps builds note that the CC perc and defense values I’ve used throughout this video are already rather generous to D sh my headpieces if you weren’t buff with high Cc or using iore the adant type mask would be even more effective even when using bullets or

Arrows it still might be better to not use shite the on paper damage loss is minimal and this opens the possibility of using multi multiple weapons and mixing armor while increasing flexibility at low damage levels or with tank builds whether you want to use the adaman type mask over the shite head

  1. Note: the two complete exceptions to this rule are the Pirahna Gun and Elf Melter, which take no damaging ammo!
    And yes, all of this is rather nitpicky and small – just a few to maybe several percentage points here and there. But, why would you craft a helmet that’s worse at boosting and only boosts certain things instead of all things?

    Note: at 2:12, I show the total damage being less when I equip the Shroomite Helmet. Most of the time your “shown” damage will be higher with the Shroomite setup no matter what, but the 5% crit chance the Adamantite Mask has over the Shroomite headpieces makes a big difference

  2. What about the piranha gun? It doesn't use ammo meaning it's weapon damage to ammo damage ratio is the same as the elf melter's, and it's the only weapon where shroomite armor's stealth set bonus can be consistently usefull against bosses in single player, because the piranhas' damage remains unchanges after being fired. Making it the perfect weapon for the shroomite armor with the helm

  4. Me, who doesn't uses shroomite at all because:
    1. It's tedious to farm
    2. It's set bonus is shit
    3. Changing between 3 helmets is horrible
    4. Hallowed or even chlorophyte are better, only because of the set bonuses
    It's the only set of the game that i don't really like, that and the sets that give bonuses to various classes like frost or crystal assasin, it's simply awful not being able to use a cool set because you are using one class and that armor has stats for various classes, idk i just hate that.

I feel like all of the people saying this isn't a big deal are forgetting that Shroomite is supposed to be an UPGRADE over the previous armor set when in reality it's at best only slightly better and at worst noticably worse. The sense of progression is fucked up there no matter how you look at it.

  7. Not to mention that launchers are just weak in general. Even for events like the Old One's army, they are out-competed by other weapons within the same tier like the sniper rifle for tier 3.

  8. One thing to note is that the shroomite set bonus can be helpful in multiplayer where you can get a chance to stand still. In my recent play through with my friends I used no armor but just for tests i would see how long I could stand still while my melee friend had all the agro. I felt like if I had been using armor I would have got a ton of mileage throughout that point in the game with the only exceptions being empress and moonlord.

  9. feels like this is a bit of an oversight, maybe with you shining a light on this relogic might adjust some stuff
    another thing which feels a bit missed out upon, more ammo types for flamethrowers, or even just damage for it
    coins get to show damage stats when you havea coin gun in your inventory, why doesn't the gel
    even further, why can't we use the pink gel as less common but more powerful ammo, or make some mixes of gel with some additives yourselves
    calamity for adding so many flamethrowers (over 12 total iirc) still only has just normal gel to use for all of them, and in some cases they chew through the gel like its nothing, just a single burst costing from 1 to 12 gel cuz each shot takes ammo if ammo conservation doesn't trigger

    Although watching this video makes me wonder what you think of beetle shell vs scale mail. I always thought if you want more defense go shell and want more damage go mail, but maybe there is something deeper that I’m missing?

  11. Counterpoint: i dont use shroomite armor at all. The set bonus is relatively useless in boss fights, where the stats matter the most. And if i dont make a farm early on or hoarde glowing mushrooms in my playthrough its such a hassle, AND if i swap weapon types i need a different headpiece.
    I just use chlorophyte armor for rangers because the set bonus is always active, protects me and adds free dps. Its headpiece is universal, and so much easier to get. And i dont remember a substantial difference in defence either

  12. It's also worth noting that using shroomite locks you into one type of ranged weapon. With the adamantite headgear you can freely switch between a bow, a gun, and a launcher and the helmet will always provide its buff, same can't be said for shroomite.

  13. As much as I love Terraria, every now and again I learn something like this and go 'This isn't a bug. This was intentionally done. And I have no idea why anyone thought randomly making one helmet tier work differently from those before and after it, without saying it anywhere, was a good idea.'

    I love you Relogic, but some of your decisions make me think they occurred after an office tequila party, because there's no logic in them, re or otherwise.

  14. I always thought the helmet was the weakest one considering most people dont use the weapons it buffs, sucks not affecting ammo makes it more so. Was the easiest shroomite headpiece to make a Minecraft skin though lol

  15. I disagree, when playing multiplayer. For several bosses my brother sat off screen with Chlorophyte Bullets in Stealth mode while me and my friend distracted mostly. The biggest example being against Plantera. With stealth he had more consistent DPS then me and my friends combined because of the homing, Stealth, and high crit chance. Yeah, solo against bosses Stealth is useless, but in multiplayer it can actually be utilized. Plus solo I actually personally do like Stealth for mobbing with the Sniper Rifle, Chain Gun, any launcher, etc. because it makes me feel like a turret/sentry gun unable to be touched because of the high damage and knock back. It may not always be good in every situation, but when you can get that Stealth mode off with a high crit chance it feels so good to annihilate enemies with crit after crit.

  16. I mainly play ranger and ive always used mixed armour sets from the start of hardmode all the way until endgame since most of the set bonuses are genuinely not worth the decrease in dps (in my opinion at least).

  17. surprised you didn't mention its garbage set bonus – I prefer to run Hallowed Armor (for the dodge) or Huntress Armor (for the sentry spam). The stealth damage bonus is massive but impossible to pull off in singleplayer, and makes other armor sets infinitely more preferable. Even the Adamantite bonus might be better

  19. i have a personal vendetta againts shroomite armour because its set bonus is uniquely boring compared to armours like palladium or orichalcum, stealth when standing still is more often annoying than helpful to me, and i wish every armour set ahd a set bonus as unique or interesting as palladium, orchalcum, or titanium
