Terraria 1.4.4: A few nerfs

A few nerfs. That’s the title of the video,   and that’s what we’ll be talking about. 1.4.4 brought a lot of change to the game,   and while there are hordes of new content and  changes, there have, of course, been many nerfs.

I’ll try to cover some obscure but still important  nerfs in this video – this isn’t all of them,   but hey, I tried. So, let’s get in.   Firstly, the Philospher’s Stone. You can’t  just cheese Potion Sickness by equipping   and de-equipping them anymore, since now it  dynamically affects potion sickness times.

This does make your life slightly harder,  but it’s not that big of a change – it just   makes it as it was intended. It does make  this sockrteez video redundant, though.   They also made Leaf Wings post-Plantera, though  the wing power has been upgraded to match Flame

Wings. It’s still weaker than most post-Plantera  wings, like the Hoverboard and Spectre Wings,   and it’s also 50% more expensive. Not really  a nerf, but a change – and given its ease   of access, this one is reasonable. This slot is reserved for three facts

I already talked about in a previous video. Hallowed Armor no longer dodges instakills like   Daytime empress, so don’t bother using  it when you’re fighting it anymore.   Fledgling Wings no longer spawn primarily in Sky  Chests, instead being a 2.5% drop as Secondary

Loot. If you’re unlucky, you gotta fish it. Holy Arrows have been nerfed slightly,   so they aren’t gonna be as effective as you  remember. They’re still pretty good though.   The popular drops Soaring Insignia and Gelatinous  Pillion have also both been nerfed. Soaring

Insignia is still great but it’s 25% slower  now, and the Pillion got its horizontal speed   nerfed by 30%. I myself am not a user of the  Pillion, as I really like my dashes, but this   might be one for the pillion-users out there. The Blade Staff now only gets 75% whip tag damage,

Which is a loss of a few damage points depending  on what whip you’re using. That’s -5 damage per   hit on the Kaleidoscope, which might suck if  you’re trying to beat Daytime EOL using Blade   Staff because every other minion is too slow. Between this and the Hallowed Armor change,

Daytime EOL is going to be harder now.  Maybe people will switch to Sanguine Staff,   though that did itself get a few minor nerfs,  and it’s also painful to get, so agh.   Whips no longer give more melee speed anymore,  and their buffs now only apply to whips. This is

A bug fix but it’s technically also a nerf.  I don’t know of any but the sweatiest of   players doing melee/whip swaps, just whip/whip  swaps, so this one won’t affect most people.   The easiest way to get Exquisitely Stuffed for  bossfights, the Seafood Dinner, no longer does.

It went from 4 minutes of Exquisite to 14  minutes of Plenty. While this makes it more   practical in the long run, the short duration was  perfect for boss fights, and now it isn’t. F   Razorblade Typhoon got nerfed slightly, with  the damage being reduced, mana cost increased,

And the projectile duration decreased.  I still think it’d be a top-tier weapon,   but just mellowed down slightly. An finally, Obsidian armor got nerfed even harder,   with it losing -20% whip range and -20% whip  speed. Quite a sad day for early-game summoners,

Especially those who use their whips a lot. I don’t know how these will affect the meta (or   if they’re even major enough to do so), but so  far the update’s been great. Most of you seem

To like it, though some disagree with one or two  features added, which is the opinion I share.   Thank you for watching, subscribe if  you enjoyed. Alas, goodday and goodbye.

Terraria 1.4.4: A few nerfs (Labor of Love)

  1. 1:59 Nonono. Not only did Sanguine Staff get nerfed more than Blade staff did to the point of being outright bad after Plantera, but other post plantera whips give a lot more tag damage now (Dark Harvest & Morning Star) which makes Blade STRONGER than before agaisnt EoL in spite of the nerf. There also has been multiple significantly buffed minions like Tempest, Xeno and Deadly Sphere as well, so Summoner has more options than ever against EoL now. When it comes to Sanguine's viability now, even the newly buffed Optic Staff is on par or stronger than it now. Sanguine is now one of the worst options you could use post-plantera, and it was already overrated & slightly outclassed against daytime EoL before its nerfs.

  2. 2:12 I spent a few hours wondering why the whip speed buffs doesn't make the Terrablade Attack faster, until i look at the Buff Icon, F.

I remember using Night's Edge with Snapthorn against WOF, sadly, that can't be done in 1.4.4 😫.

  3. All these nerfs and I only used the holy arrows out of all of them in this video

I use the stone as well, but I don't use the cheese, I wasn't even aware of it tbh

  4. Even though Obsidian Outlaw Armor got nerfed even more which made Summoner in pre-hardmode more harder, I actually like it since the Obsidian Outlaw armor practically killed the point of summoner's using an army of summons.

  5. the queen slime mount seems fair as it make many boss fight so easy with it's fast vertical speed. I use it on master mode twins and skeletron prime fight and it really makes it like so easy. the bosses just can't keep up with the vertical speed and will never hit you.

  6. this update really dropped the ball with the nerfs, they basically neuter your creativity and changed progression for the worst, leaf wings only purpose was for them to be a decent very early HM set of wings that you replaced the second you found something better, now they're just another set of wings no-one's gonna use, the sea food dinner nerf made the game grindier for no reason.

Insignia nerf is stupid, you're already giving up a precious accessory slot for it on top of wings on top of whatever boots you pick (which more often than not is terraspark because they also make those be the best) so that's 3 slots just for mobility and for a summoner? that's not gonna cut it, if anything this forced summoners into a whip centric playstyle even more because there's no way to cram enough summon slots in, oh and don't even get me STARTED on obsidian armor having basically half it's beneffits removed, again forcing you to switch armor in HM and playing a mostly minion only build which is SO BORING! summoner was only fun because you could pick a whip playstyle and actually have to play close to enemies and pair the right whip with the right summon but now? the progression got a lot more linear

  7. Really sad to see them wanna destroy the usefulness of the Obsidian Outlaw set so much. I like the novelty of making subclasses with weapons like whips or yo-yos, though it’s kinda tough to wanna do that when it seems they don’t entirely want you to with how much they seem to be taking away.

  8. holy arrows are just completely worthless at this point. they already needed them to where they were basically garbage on anything except the stormbow, now i’m not even sure it has THAT going for it

  9. I mainly used the Pillion as a vertical dash, while still having some hover time in case I screw up. However, this is still pretty bad for ones who basiclaly replaced their wing slot with a pillion.

  10. I actually used the queen slime mount so I can replace my boots and wings with either more defense of damage. Now I instead use the pigron mount, but I say its still good for mech bosses ig :/

  11. Yet another instance of the terraria devs whinging anytime players have fun in a game they bought. Can't understand why they even do these balance patches bc the game is predominantly single player or co op. Like the fuck do these balances do besides make players upset and ruin fun?

  12. I feel like they're willing to make players go for the usual wing progression instead of stoneskipping to lefy wings, although if Frozen gets nerfed the Pixies will get a chance in the spotlight, but then again red bois are not that hard to kill, it's just the obnoxious spawn rates of other deadly stuff in the underworld and the absurd drop chance
Edit: and the condition of killing a mech for red bois to spawn anyway is just meh, I guess the pixie gets a chance then gets thrown away after a mech is defeated cause of Flame wings, but then again Frozen isn't touched just yet

  13. I'm not too fond of the blade staff nerf.
I loved the fact that the kaleidoscope's high whip tag damage carried the low base summon damage.

  14. I might be the only one glad EoL now ignores i-frames… Dodging her attacks requires practice but very do-able. Kinda hate how people tried to cheese her by using the hollowed armor buff.

  15. I didn’t come to Terraria until after 1.4.4, but through tmodloader I’m testing out what some of these things were like before the great nerfs of 1.4.4. So far I’ve used the pre 1.4.4 obsidian armor and holy shit is it good. Every pre hardmode boss I used it against(on expert mode mind you) went down with minimal effort, one of them being Queen Bee. It’s still good in current terraria and the nerfs were probably deserved, but as one of my favorite armor sets I wish it was still broken.

  16. I hope that Lilith's necklace won't be nerfed. Got by chance in my summoner run and it quickly became my main mount option. That and the bundle of balloons(RIP if you play strictly one world) and mobility solved. The 3 blocks tall is great too!
